Yeah, he can’t play. No use sitting on the bench. DM could have gone after him in the off season providing if he is fit.
the protection is key. his appeal is his athleticism and speed defensively and in transition. no one recovers from an Achilles and retains their athleticism and speed. he's not coming back as an A+ athlete with A- defense. but does he come back as a B+ and B+ respectively? or worse? can he improve his shooting to compensate? if so, he's a steal and will be kept next season. if not, he gets cut.
From the Athletic "International players have been ruled ineligible, but had they not, the Rockets already had formulated a list of names to target, with former Rocket James Nunnally being one of them."
No guarantee the Rockets get him in the off season if his Achilles is healed. He played at a very high level this year. The Rockets were able to funnel 900K to this season to save it on the tax next year. Also this way the Rockets save their MLE. This was a very creative and smart signing.
Achillies injuries are all over the board and most of the examples are older players past 30 that never recover to be the same. There are some players that came back as good as ever. The two best examples I can think of are Dominique Wilkins and Rudy Gay. The guy that never really recovered from a torn Achillies was Elton Brand. He just was never the same on offense.
This sounds like there won’t be any further additions. What is Clemons’ contract like? Can he be replaced easily by another player for the playoffs, without cutting into the MLE?
In 20 games for Brooklyn this season, Nwaba shot 42.9% from 3-point range. He is shooting 49.2% from the floor for his career and was named All-NBA Development League All-Defensive Team in 2016-17. https://www.nba.com/rockets/news/rockets-sign-free-agent-david-nwaba-0
https://nothinbutnets.com/2019/07/16/brooklyn-nets-3-things-david-nwaba-brings-table/ Emphatic blocks only represent half of Nwaba’s defensive package. As a certifiable glue guy, it’s only fitting he possesses sticky hands to pick off passes galore and produce deflections in bunches. A hyper-quick hand-eye reaction pattern, innate sense of timing and everlasting competitive edge fuse together to form a truly destructive force in the passing-lanes, known to some around these parts as “Nwakanda.” https://www.netsdaily.com/2020/4/11...abas-contributions-to-a-long-and-crazy-season
so I'm assuming Morey is going all-in on small ball including next season... our team is gonna be ran into the ground by all-star break next season
