So basically when the mle was fully utilized they had their best year 17-18 when they got Cp3 tuck luc. The years after yeah sat on mle money. What a surprise it went downhill from there after that 17-18 when the following season had depleted depth. Lol at the players partially utilizing mle on for a contending supporting cast

Because that lineup has to tighten its defense, collective-IQ and cohesiveness until it can beat Memphis, Portland and Golden State for a playoff spot. Right now that's a fun NBA 2K lineup. There's plenty of reason to believe they can do that in 2-3 years, this year 40 wins would be deeply impressive and would bust all of the odds-makers which are around 30-35 wins.

I would also swap KMJ and even Nwaba for House. House is a replacement level player.

I honestly don't think so. 4 of the 5 starters are NBA rotation players already and Green is the most NBA ready rookie in the NBA having played for an NBA head coach and retired NBA players. Sengun, Garuba, KJ have more experience than your average rookie/sophomore. I think they will be a good defensive team and challenge for a playoff spot. Can't beat the Warriors with Klay or Portland healthy, but MEMPHIS? Not worried.

The biggest issue this team will have is building cohesion, but that doesn't preclude a team from making the playoffs. I think our second half is going to be excellent.

The one year I think they “screwed up” with the MLE was in 2018-19. They could’ve tried to add a solid free agent or to use it then on House and pay some luxury tax.

But they fully used it in 2019-20, mostly on House. The late-season Nwaba signing was a shrewd move.

In 2020-21, given how it was already playing out before the start of the season (Russ/Harden), I thought their use of the MLE to give longer-term deals to Martin, Tate and Thomas was very smart use of the exception.

Clearly, the team ducked the tax too much, but to accuse them of NEVER using the MLE is just false. They messed up in one season. Otherwise, their use of the MLE has been pretty solid.

Agreed 18-19 was the year they desperately needed to use it. that team had 0 depth and it showed as the season went on

19-20 the summer of trading for westbrick was a disaster from the beginning. using mle on house meaningless to me. that team never had a shot

20-21 well didn't really matter here literally. Harden gone. worst team in the league. use of any mle is worthless

The point is Tilman never used the MLE when it was necessary to compete when the team had its best chance. And in 17-18 the team was already constructed with cp3, tuck, luc additions before he became owner

The odds makers are at 26 wins. If they make 35 wins they would break the bank.

Using the MLE on someone other than the missing piece to a championship is NOT “meaningless”. The House contract was solid. Getting Early Bird rights to Nwaba allowed them to give him his recent deal. It won’t be “meaningless” when both Tate and Martin are still making the minimum in 2022-23 instead of someone else’s MLE money.

it's meaningless when that 19-20 didn't have a legit shot to begin with. they torpedoed that when they traded for westbrick. spending it on house made no difference, especially when he sucked in the playoffs and became unplayable. He then followed that with being an idiot in the bubble

getting nwaba is meaningless when you're the worst team in the league and hes already 28

I really couldn't careless about Tilman finally deciding to spend some MLE on a team that is projected to win like 20 games or when you don't even have a real chance to win anyway. He didn't do it when it was the right time to give yourself the best chance to win it all

Technically, Nwaba and KMJ are replacement level players. House is below replacement level.

Neither Silas or Stone are as invested in advanced stats as Morey or even D'Antoni (who really was not a huge advocate until hired by Rockets).

Allowing both Wall and Dipo to ISO as much as they did is proof of that.

Not to mention ignoring Wood's efficiency and touches.

dont think it has anything to do with the advanced stats, no self respecting coach or even a basketball fan likes to see such inept players iso that much while ignoring the better player..smh smh smh

Hahaha good one, makes it at least funny, but still massive design fail. Maybe Tilman cut costs and made one of his relatives run social media, it’s been different, that’s for sure.

let's take wagers on how many games it will take before Sengun starts over him.

i'll say 35 because Silas is stubborn.

You dont really want Wood and Sengun starting together as then the defense is non existent and both need the ball in the paint.

Having Sengun come off the bench is fine for now.

I love Sengun but I'm okay with him coming off the bench all year long, just let him get lots of minutes and finish out games when appropriate. Now, if we have injuries then let him start.
