JV--Actually, Utah now employs that exact strategy of refusing to deal with Fegan clients. After losing Shandon Anderson and Howard Eisley due to Fegan, the Jazz all but made it an official policy not to deal with Fegan. In fact, the Jazz were seriously looking at taking Kenny Satterfield at #25, but he was a Fegan client. Therefore, Utah instead took Raul Lopez, and Satterfield wasn't taken until the second round. Another example of Fegan ruining a client's life.
Aw, RT was tired of the mooch coming late to practices from all-night clubbing anyway. This young team doesn't need a bloodshot eyed, glitter-infested fro'd fegan client anyway. The only reason it worked out last season was because the Bull offset mooch's bad examples anyway. Anyway, the UofH tradition lives on. Anyway.
Yea, but none of them have a fro. There's probably nothing there involving the Rockets, but I can't help myself. I keep holding out hope that the Rockets will find a way to steal either LaFrentz or Willis from you guys.
Fegan must be overestimating Moochie's value. With all the teams looking at the cap, and the availible back up pg's he must be crazy. shammond is there,Jones was there and Mobley could back up Francis at the point anyway. Plus I think with the roster moves we have made, rudy will not play the 3 guard line up not nearly as much last year. The line-up was done because our 3 spot basically was to slow (with the wizard) or couldn't score (Shandon) so Rudy used this line up. I don't think the backup will play more than 10min per now. Will Moochie accept that?
Hoop-T, I agree with your observations, also having watched him here. He is a hard nosed kid and is better defensively than Moochie. He is also a better ouside shooter, but not as good at breaking down defenses. Also agree that he could play either the 1 or 2 position. Don't know what's in the cards re. moves, trades etc., but he's good insurance for the Rox now that Moochie appears to be on the way out the door.
I heard Dan Fegan was or will be in Toronto this week. Could this mean Moochie will just sign out-right with the Raptors for little money? Damon Jones is a good pickup if he goes. Kinda weak for a backup but definatly not bad. He's got a good 3pt shot but really bad PG instincts.
Jones, at the minimum, is a very excellent backup policy. Right now we have: Cato/Collier/Jackson* KT/Griffin (Taylor on IR) Rice/Langhi/Morris/Williams Mobley Francis *-assuming the deal goes down. with guaranteed deals. That is 11 guys even if Walt is traded for someone, meaning there is one more active roster slot, and two more IR slots. I think if all other options fall through, Jones's ability to play the 1 and 2 give Rudy lots of versatility. He has a much better shot at the roster than some of the training camp fodder we signed.
Yeah, I saw Damon Jones play up here in Dallas 2 seasons ago. I've got to give the guy credit for his confidence. He reminded me a little of Vernon Maxwell when it came to shooting: he's never met a shot he didn't like. I wasn't sure if it was Nelson's wacky coaching or Jones not knowing when to give up the rock, but more than once I saw him jackup the potential game winning shot (and miss) rather than pass the ball to Finley or Dirk. If I have the right guy, I think I also read some about how he used to tag along with Cassell when Sam was in Houston so he was always around the Rockets organization even before he was even close to going pro. I'm pretty happy about signing him. I'm assuming he didn't get a huge amount of money so it can't be to bad of a thing. Plus, it gives the Rockets a nice way to force the Moochie issue to get solved. I think they could still sign Mooch, but now they've got the ability to draw the line on their own terms. --Drof
Here's what Jones had to say about himself last summer, when he was playing on the Blazers' summer-league team: "I'm a shooter who can run a basketball team. Most teams think I can't run a team as a point guard in a halfcourt offense, but I think otherwise, and I can shoot the ball with the best of them." Comparing himself to some former Dallas teammates, Jones said "I'm a shooter like Hubert Davis, I can handle the ball like Robert Pack, and now I'm trying to get the wisdom that Steve Nash has as a floor leader. "Hopefully, on Aug. 1, I can sign a deal not just for next season but for years to come. I'm looking for stability in the league, a two- or three-year deal. I'm a shooting guard in a point guard's body, but I feel I'm a combo guard who can play either system." OK, I added a little emphasis to help you all to understand his mentality.
