I have to say that Hayes reminds me a lot ob Bo Outlaw. I hope he will be at least as servicable as bo. Bo was all heart and hustle. He may end up being more like Chucky Brown--which would still be pretty sweet. I like his hustle. I guess it's way early in his career to make too many predictions, but he ain't gonna get moved outta the league because he ain't trying.

His lack of height doesn't disturb me at all. If he develops a jump shot he has the potential to be a very good SF and figure in our rotation for a very long time.

Who cares about height anyways? Rebounding is all about boxing out, positioning and timing your jumps right. Hayes does all of this extremely well. Just look at somebody like Swift, I know another shot at Swift, but he's 6'9" and can jump out of the gym yet doesn't have good instincts and doesn't box out. You would think Swift would hands-down be the better rebounder between the two but Hayes has those intangibles we need.........

I saw a stat line from a Knicks box score a few days back that Mo Taylor (who is currently starting!) pulled down 12 boards. I nearly fell out of my chair.

I also see the potential for him to be a SF. He is a good multi-position defender. If he can work on an outside shot, he can develop into an Artest-lite player and a good back up for McGrady.

All things happen for a reason.

Hayes got his chance! Hope he keeps up the hard work ethic and game time intensity. He's got good potential to become good energy off the bench when we need rebounds and hard (Bobby Sura type) play!

    USA TODAY

    Rockets retain Hayes, cut Lucas

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Rockets have signed forward Chuck Hayes for the rest of this season, extending a 10-day contract that expired on Saturday. The 6-foot-6 Hayes has averaged eight points and eight rebounds in six games since rejoining the team on Jan. 18. Hayes first signed with Houston as a rookie free agent on Oct. 3 but was waived before the regular season.
The former Kentucky standout was then selected sixth overall in the 2005 NBA Developmental League Draft by the Albuquerque Thunderbirds. In 14 games with Albuquerque, Hayes averaged 11.6 points and a league-leading 12.2 rebounds per game.

Also Saturday, the Rockets allowed the second 10-day contract of guard John Lucas III to expire. Lucas, a Houston native and the son of former Rocket John Lucas Jr., averaged 2.3 points and 0.9 assists in 13 games.

The Rockets play Miami on Sunday.

That's a sweet way to put it. Here's another way to look at it:

Taylor signs a $48 million dollar contract and then blows out his Achilles less than a month later in a pick-up game. He missed the entire season as a result of that injury.

At least, that's how I remember it. I could have my facts wrong.

p.s. I don't hate Mo, I just pity the fool.

That is freaking awesome we signed him up. I wish he hit those layups last night after he grabbed the offensive boards, but I love his tenacity and hustle. Can't wait to see what type of role he'll play when Juwan and Swift are healthy.

My MoTay comment was basically meaning, get a contract and relax and/or suck, no matter what the size of the contract is. I love hayes and really looking forward to seeing how he develops, he's the reason why i'm a lot more anxious to watch the rockets when everyone was out these past games. I really want Hayes to develop because im amazed at his bball IQ and hustle, it would just be real dissappointing to not see the "hungry" Hayes after he is signed the remainder of the season, he can truely help this team out, in more ways than Bowen imo. My comment wasn't supposed to come off negative, and i used MoT because my last memory of him was being horrible after the fat contract (regardless of if he was injured or whatever, he still was a dissappointment after the signing, but i don't blame him). I just wanted to point out i hope this will not be the case with Hayes because i see something in him that i haven't seen in an undersized rookie big man in a long time. Speaking of which, i like that.. Hungry Hayes...

I doubt if he has a big contract. He is only signed through the rest of the season. He should have the incentive to play hard so he can become a permanent player in the league.

This was a good move by the organization.

Chuck Hayes played last night like a man whose 10 day contract wa about to expire---that is, I think he might have had a couple more put-backs if not for his spastic-ness.

He's strong, quick, has a nose for the ball, and he has basketball smarts that Stromile lacks. He even blocked KG at least once, didn't he?

Stromile almost seems a little more expendable now, if the right deal comes along.

Awesome. I'm glad to hear it and am happy for the guy. Congrats to him for finally succeeding in playing for a contract.

How is it that Espn and USA Today have info on the signing of Hayes and not the Rocket web site?

The must pay their web people nickels and dimes.

Don't worry, if Hayes is for real and continues to rebound, play hard and not foul too much, he'll get plenty of time. Besides Deke, he's the only "big" we have who is an instinctive rebounder. The Rockets need his skillset.

Great anticipation watching the shot, and knowing where to go for the rebound, terrific hands. Tracy finally has someone who can grab a hard pass and knows what to do with it. Very hard worker. Hell, if we come out of this season with Head and Hayes, and they keep improving, this may turn out to be a year to remember... two solid, young rotation players, with upside, from this draft year. Hard to beat that, short of having a high pick.

Good job, CD... now pick up someone at the deadline, with our deadwood, and put us over the top for the playoffs. We ain't dead yet.

No, but the vultures are circling.

Still, quite a steal, this guy. Luther at #24 and now we get Chuck Hayes for virtually free.

I agree with you about trading our deadwood, as thacabbage brought up in another thread. This is the time to make a move and set ourselves up for next year.
