Is Cato injured? I heard it on TV? Was that a mistake?

Perhaps a 'cancer in the locker room' is what the two most unprofessional teams in the league need to die a speedy death.

So he's a dirty SOB. Deal with it. Teams with an incipient dominant big man need that kind of protection.

He's good for 10-15 min. a night- more than that and you've got a hell of a pickup for the rest of the season. I'm pretty sure he can still hit the mid-range jumper if left alone, too.

hillboy like some of the others said, you could ask the same for mark jackson. How come noone looked to pick him up?? And as it was reported, several other clubs DID look to sign him. And like i have said to someone else or it may well have been you, don't cry over what they did or did not do. Get over it. And your post goes to show that you have bias towards him. Stretched perceptions maybe??? If you don't like him grow some balls and just say it, don't blame it on the rockets organization or make up stupid sht like that.

No good can come from his presence on this team? Well that breaks my heart. Do you want to teach these kids how to have proper manners while playing the game Or do you want to win basketball games! This is no choir school. This is a sporting competition. They are playing at the highest level of competition. They are getting paid millions of dollars to be better than the other guy. Its fierce out there. You got to have the fire in you. Theres no room for refined gentlemen in the game of basketball. Competition is the devil. Somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. One guy fails. One guy succeeds. The nature of competition is the devil. Theres nothing good about it. Oakley knows this. He has coordinated his dancing steps to imitate the devils dance. He imitates the comepetitve spirit of the devil. The other guys can learn from his devilsh dancing. and maybe come out of it doing one hell of texas two-step.

Guess no one is bothered by the fact that Patrick Ewing is only one year older than Charles Oakley.

Or, that in Ewing's last season, Ewing had better numbers than Oakley in Oakley's last 2.

Or that Oakley only played 2 seasons for Van Gundy with the most recent being 97-98.

Or that in spite of being 100-64 in the regular season, the Oakley/Van Gundy Knicks were 10-10 in the playoffs.

Or that Oakley played for Lenny Wilkens in TOR but Wilkens called on Vin Baker instead of Oakley.

Or that Oakley has never played for a WC team and that TOR was 11-17 vs the West in Oakley's last productive season (2000-01). That season, the Rockets beat the Raptors twice...110-91 and 117-99 with with Mo Taylor playing C and Kenny Thomas at PF.

lol, I hope you didnt do all that research, because those are some of the weakest bunch of factoids I've ever seen.

-Ewing is one of the greater centers to play the game, that bit of information should be expected, not come as a surprise.
-2 seasons under JVG, great! He should be familar with they system then.
-10-10 playoff record isnt bad. In fact JVG career playoff record is like 35-30 in the first place.
-I'm sure Lenny Wilkens had his reasons to picking up Vin Baker, just like Boston had his reasons to sign him to a multi-year deal, look how great both of their decisions turned out to be.
-So what? So Oakley's toronto _team_ (emphasis on team) wasnt as good against some of the the western conference's? Oh the horror.

So what were you trying to prove? Oakley isnt a star player and isnt the final piece to the championship puzzle? WOW, alert the media. If you expected more from a late-season 10-day acquisition then you need to get your head checked.

    Relax, it's just a 10 day contract.

it hasnt even started yet, why cant you just wait and see how it goes? He maybe not be able to help the team, cynicism is definitely not going to help the team.

    Oakley looks AWESOME

That is a great pic, darkwarrior.

I personally think that this is a great addition. And contrary to what some posters have sad, I DO think that Oak has tremendous value - both tangible in rebounding and intangible in leadership. This guy is all business. He is not afraid of ANYBODY in the league. And that whole incident between Amare and Steve Francis - you can expect Oak to be the FIRST one to get between and DEFEND Francis OR Yao OR Mobley. He's like the big brother we all wished we had. This is a great pickup IMO. The Rox need some mental toughness and not get bullied around by the likes of Phoenix. Not every team is a as classy as the Spurs and we're going to need some more thug power to get the crown.

if you would have told me 6 months ago that would be our logo, and that charles oakley, patrick ewing, clarence weatherspooon, mark jackson and jeff van gundy would all be wearing it.. I wouldn't believe it for anything..

Those are the coolest tank tops.... I wonder where you can get one of those?

I'm willing to guarantee that Oakley is going to do marvels for this team. My gut tells me that JVG was trying to instill a lot of Oak attitude into Cato before this injury. With Oak around, maybe Cato, can further evolve and improve into the enforcer that JVG wants to see. Anyone who's ever seen Oakley play knows how tough he is. And Oakley is truly your prototypical power forward.

I'm hoping Oak teaches Yao and MoT how to get tougher, be better rebounders, and punish anyone who drives to the basket.

It wouldn't hurt if MoT were in even better shape either. He's been in good shape recently, but if he could get into Oakley-shape, he could easily be considered our starter at the 4, no questions asked.

It is pretty esay to not like Oakley. But considering he is filling in for an injured player, who else would we have signed... Alton Ford?

Little voice in my head... "over the last few minutes the Lakers have made an amazing come back, as Karl Malone is playing like his old self. He is pushing people out of his way, kicking out his leg when he shoots and getting the three point play with regularity. And the Rockets have to call a time out to try to slow him down. Oh wait, the Rockets substitute and bring in __________ to try to cool off the mailman."

If ________ is Alton Ford, we are in trouble. If I hear Oakley, I at least have some hope.

The thing is that even if Oakley plays well, I will still want him gone. I don't like thugs whether they play good basketball or not. I remember Oakley trying to slam Drexler down on more than one occasion. The Rockets don't need that kind of person on their team even if he gets 30 rebounds a night.
