If you think Rubio is a bad player or a lower-tier point guard then you need to study the game of basketball. You simply don't understand what a player does and doesn't do, and to what degree they do it or don't do it, impacts winning and losing basketball games.

A +35% 3 pt shooter is not barely better than a sub 30% shooter. that's a big difference

If you get fouled on a shot attempt and it doesn't go in, it doesn't count as a FGA on the stat sheet. So it's not a misleading stat in the least.

this has been discussed over and over. like it or not he's on the bottom tier of the starting pg's in the league no matter how much of a crush you have on him and try to persuade others how good you think he is.

Rubio helps his team alright, helps them all the way to a top 10 pick almost every year.

This partly negates his 80 percent FT shooting percentage.
His 3 point percentage this season was 25 percent.

If a player shoots 3 layups and hits 1 of them and then they take another 4 layup shots and get fouled on those attempts and go to the line and make 80% of those shots...it does too make a difference. Sorry.....there's more to a player's offensive effect than shooting percentages. Shooting percentages in and of themselves are very surface. They don't tell you what's behind a player's impact unless that player is just a shooter.

I like Rubio and his ability to run an offense. I understand his shooting percentages are terrible. However, change of scenery and a new offense might serve him well. Look at Brewer and Smith. They're shooting was off the charts after they got here.

this is irrelevant because rubio doesn't even get to the line enough to make that kind of difference.

I'll restate what I've said about Rubio over the past several years... he's a huge liability as a scorer and I do not want him here. He does not fit here in a seamless way like other, better point guards would.

With that said, despite those shortcomings, teams will always show interest in him because he possess what's become one of the rarest skills in basketball -- creating for others on offense. He would struggle to gel alongside Harden at first but at the same time he would make Dwight Howard more effective on offense almost immediately. He would replace the steals/fast break points we would lose with Brewer and give you some of the value you might lose with Beverley at his new increased salary.

Unlike many I can actually see why there would be interest (I bet Dwight wouldn't mind him) but I definitely don't believe there's much to the rumors. Even if we got Rubio I don't see him as part of the long term picture.

Pretty sure McHale already dumped all over the Timberwolves before. So, I could see why it would be attractive to him.

He has never shown the ability to score, whether at the line or behind the arc. This teams NEEDS players that can hit shots or finish strong. Rubio is not trash himself, but is definitely 100% trash for us.

Rubio's FTR is .432 for his career. And the more games he plays the higher it goes. He doesn't take a ton of free throws BECAUSE he doesn't take a ton of shots. However, as a percentage of his shots taken, he goes to the free throw line a ton.

Just to put that into perspective, last season James Harden's FTR was .561 on a team with 2 guys (Dwight and JSmoove) who were intentionally hacked over and over to put us in the bonus. Only 3 point guards in the league last season had a FTR of greater than .432.

Rubio did have an FTR of over .5 a couple seasons ago. He slipped last year with his injury, only playing 22 games.

If you want to rag on Rubio you should be ragging about his health or relative lack of good health. That's the weak spot. Not his finishing. Not his 3-point shooting. Not his shooting. But his health. That's what should be the focus of criticism.
