No way Martin agrees to come here. He hates us now. That and Morey doesn't do garbage contracts and Martin has one.

He made that this year. His extension starts next year where he will make $12M, $13M, $14M and $15M.

No, he has a poison pill provision... which expires July 1.
He'll get paid $12 million next year, increasing to $15 million in 2018/2019

I guess his current trade value for trade purposes is $4.6 million.

I'm not sure how a trade for Rubio would have to work cap wise.

I guess if you are going to trade for him, you do it before July 1st since it should take less assets from a pure $ value perspective of contracts.

But I still don't want his $12+ million on the books.

Honestly that's the main concern. I think you can work around his shooting ability. He does other things good on the court. He's not a scrub and he does have good games against good competition. I think I mentioned it before that he does that, could be playing in Minny has kind of took his fire away and passion for the game away. Playing for a contender on a notable NBA franchise may get some spark of life back in him. I'd be cool with a rubio trade depending on what we get back.

No, he just signed a new contract with Minny. 12.7m to 14.8m over the next 4 years.

Is it possible that Rubio would only count 4.6 million against the cap and then when his salary balloons to 12 million, we use him in a trade to get a max player?

Seems like a Morey move, if possible.

I'd be worried more about his inability to finish at the rim. His career shooting percentage at the rim is 46.7%. That's unacceptable.

Morey is a dumbass. Keep being interested in everything except a pg. Even that drunken fool sailor wants a pg.

I definitely don't hate Rubio's game, but I'm curious about this as well.

If we're talking to the Wolves, it's probably for a potential pick swap, not a major player move. Morey wants multiple first rounders.

You can put me in the same camp. Trading for a 4 million a year player and turning that into a max player the following year would seem like a Morey kind of move. The biggest problem I see to it, however, is that if you're targeting a free agent, whether you're hoping to get a sign and trade or not, ideally you have the cap space to sign them outright. If you add 8 million bucks to your payroll, you're making it harder on yourself to have the cap space to sign someone outright in 2016.
