Trade Yao and Brooks on or before December 15th. I've been flashing this trade around today http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeM...tradeId=2u3vey2. Doing this now would open up new trade possibilities for Scola, Hayes possibly Battier towards the deadline. Really don't want to trade Battier because he, IMO, remains to be the glue that holds this team together. This is the proper way to rebuild during the season and still keep the team competitive. This is the now move that we all have been looking for. This is the type of move that would keep us in contention for years to come. As you can see the team is playing well(despite the losses) without two of their top players. Even without them they are still one good two way player off from being a feared squad. Also, tell me, which player is currently earning his contract and has been for the past two seasons? Yao or Brand? Too many focus on the negative and not the positive. Brand is playing very well right now, although still not worth the contract, but still producing. Now, as far as Sac not wanting to part with Cousins, i think they are just waiting to see how Brooks turns out before they do so. We could definitely sweeten the deal with Patterson if need be.

Yes, let's trade all of our injured or slumping players for young studs after every win. I think that's the best course of action.
I think we should spend years acquiring players that fit around one certain player. Then wait for that one centerpiece to get injured and be absolutely terrible. Once we get lucky and manage to win a game vs a good team, we should trade that centerpiece, despite the years of building, and no consistancy whatsoever.
If you are talking about rebuilding then the proper way to do that is to let the contracts of Yao/Battier/Jeffries expire. Not take on Elton Brand's for two more years, whom will be getting paid more than any member of the Heat's Big 3. Whoever is stuck with Brand when the new CBA comes out will not be a happy camper.
Hollinger's analysis: Rockets - With this trade, you have increased this team's projected wins by 9 76'ers - With this trade, you have decreased this team's projected wins by 14 Kings - With this trade, you have decreased this team's projected wins by 2 I guess it would work if the opposing GM's were Rockets fans...
With the possibility of getting Cousins, you now have a player who would be surrounded by veterans on a good team. You have to admit, you are just as tired of the Yao Ming ride as i am. Brooks, as good as he is, is not going to get better. They could both be valuable as either a huge expiring or a good talented shooter.
Or if opposing GM's were smart enough not to have to consult Hollinger's mathematics before every trade. It's not a bad deal.. but I think there has to be some picks involved/upgrade in talent. Philly is going to want more than Chase Budinger, and I'm not convinced Brooks has enough value to land you Cousins. Jordan Hill/Patterson would be moving pieces in a deal like this, I'd think. That said, it involves trading Yao: not going to happen. The only way he leaves the Rockets is this summer via FA.
So we are stuck with Elton Brand, Kevin Martin and Iggy's monstrous contracts? I rather we let Yao expire instead of committing salary suicide.
