Thomas is a solid player on a friendly contract. Not flashy and not the most talented guy in the world, but fundamenatally sound, great court vision, does pretty much everything well, and he'll just keep getting better. Doubt the Suns are serious about moving him.
Thomas has had a 20+ points/game season and has posted a PER of 20+ over the past two years. I don't think Canaan is quite on that level right now.
For those saying Canaan is the same as IT....realize that you are saying that if Canaan started right now, he would average 20 points per game and generate 7 assists per game. If true, this is quite an indictment of McHale for not giving him any playing time behind Bev/Terry. Hard to also believe Morey would allow a 20ppg weapon to sit on our bench getting basically 0 minutes a game. If that is the case, this team has some real scouting issues to address.
But they're both short. Therefore, they are the same. I'd be afraid of ruining chemistry by replacing Dwight's main squeeze.
Yeah IT is way more talented than Cannan. He is a midget for a pro bball player (only 5'9''. I bet most posters here are taller than that) and he STILL made it to the nba even as the last pick in the second round. He got paid respectably and he is even a starter. This all is a huge testament to his offensive talent. However Canaan is a little better in defence.
I'd rather have George Hill. Not as good of a scorer as Thomas, but at this level you cannot compete unless you have two-way players. Hill is an offensive improvement over Beverly without taking anything away on the defensive side.
Horse ****, if that is what Rudy T thought the team never would have won, you have to stay the course, develop a chemistry with a core group of players. Always flipping the roster guarantees failure in the playoffs. DD
+1 That kind of attitude is exactly the kind of video game GMing that I can't stand. Collect as many valuable assets as you can and never consider things like chemistry. Talent plays a huge part in winning, but chemistry is needed to get you over the top, especially in the playoffs when the other team sees you for 2 weeks
yes because we have no need for backup scoring pgs that can be had for a 2nd rounder 4 years from now.
Boston and Miami won titles without much gelling time. There are NO guarantees in basketball. There is no one way of doing things.
Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of flipping the starting 4 for an aging 2; ultimately igniting the most improbable play-off run in NBA history. In both ends of the Back2Back Rudy T (magnificently) coached the greatest player on the planet, and that includes when the Jordan fella returned from his gambling suspension er baseball experiment. And in terms of flipping? Do you recall the PG rotations for the 1st end, or even the 2nd of that Championship Heart brace of years?
They do? It seems as if the "worshippers" are the ones who are open to different strategies. To try different things while remaining flexible to change directions if need be. The anti Morey group seem to think you land your stars then lock yourself into a group of role players for a few years at a time till it's proven that it doesn't work with that group. One sounds open to change and other options one sounds like a rigid straightforward plan without wiggle room.
Another straw man argument that Morey ONLY does things one way and doesnt look at everything and anything to improve. Simple minded idiot.
