He can't play defense, but is unstoppable on offense and a great passer. A combination of his offense and passing, along with Bev's defense would solve our point guard problem. Best part is he is on a relatively cheap contract (for a 20 ppg player) and would not cost us our lottery pick. This would give us the flexibility to get a much needed "big" to replace Dorsey. Seems like a win-win situation.
should be in random trade idea thread. also: the suns know IT is better than dragic, which is why dragic is the one on the block and IT is the one signed long term.
Smoothie, the only reason it is not in the random trade thread is that there are several reports this morning stating that the Suns have decided they want to keep Dragic and trade Thomas instead. Moving forward they want their backcourt to b Dragic and Bledsoe.
Its kinda up to Phoenix at the end of the day. The Suns have two options- 1. You can get market value for a good bench scorer, and one-way player. Look up what those go for nowadays. The Rockets paid two 2nd Rounders for Corey Brewer. I think that would be about market value for Thomas. The Rockets do that deal, and make Thomas their 6th man scorer off the bench. He's great value and a major upgrade. However... he's probably not going to start due to defense. or... 2. You can get major assets and at least one good quality young big for Dragic.... a player who can leave at the end of this season. Its a tough choice for Phoenix but one that is theirs to make. We need to understand that, and respect their positioning. They likely have alot of pressure on them from ownership to make the playoffs THIS year. Goran is the better player at the end of the day. The decision will likely come down to short term success over long term team building. And honestly... if they are in love with Dragic then why not also trade Bledsoe? If Bledsoe is a better and younger player than Dragic it makes sense to then trade Gogi. If they think Dragic is better than it should shock no one is he's offered to the teams that want Gogi and are offering major front court help.
FTW But like somebody else said, vertically challenged players who can't defend are too much for the current Rox defense to overcome.
Thomas is younger, locked up for a couple more years, and on a better contract than Dragic(at least starting next season). I still want Dragic, but it's not like Thomas would be a bad consolation prize.
No and No, We are in the Western Conference where guard play is key on both sides of the court. Granted Isaiah can shoot it but we are talking about a guy who will be going against the top guards in the league. We get killed by Clippers and Golden State, hard to match up against Portland and San Antonio, and you know why?? Guards.. We need to be able to balance the defense w/ the offense.
BBHolic what are your thoughts on Thomas? You originally called for the Rockets to get Hassan Whiteside, so your opinion should be valued by those on the board.
You guys do realize we are tie for THIRD in the conference, why the hell is everyone panicking and wanting to make this trade or that? I hate that we have become about the trades - and less about winning. DD
Rockets could've signed him for a similar deal in the offseason and didn't bother. Went for Ariza and then held their Lin TE instead of possibly spending the money on Thomas. Since then, Thomas has shown to be the exact same player he was in Sacramento. If Morey showed no interest in the guy back when he only costed money, why would he now give up assets for the same player today?
Third in the conference, but clearly a tier below the top teams. It doesn't pay to be a good team in the NBA, you have to be the best to accomplish anything. This isn't the NFL where anything can happen, in a 7 game series the better team will win 95% of the time. The Rockets can't be happy being a good team, they have to do everything they can to become the best.
