Ever heard the phrase "That's why you play the games" ? Maybe we should just suck year after year and get high draft picks....... that will ensure we are contenders from there on out..... ......signed Houston Texans Didn't work for them, not guaranteed to work for anyone. Talent, chemistry, and coaching lead to championships and right now we are low on one or more of those---depending on who you talk to. I would much rather watch a team who makes it interesting, even while they are retooling and don't have all the pieces to go all the way. You want us to be bottom dwellers until we look good enough on paper. Good effort Rockets!!!! Keep improving and let's hope Daryl gets you some help.
The problem is that there may be only like 2 or 3 dudes in the NBA that fit that description. Good luck with that.
This game showed us why we can never contend without superstar type players. No matter how well we play, we're at a match-up disadvantage. The only way our team can beat a Boston, Miami, or L.A. is for us to be playing at our peak and the other team to be playing below it's peak. If the other team is playing great, we will lose no matter what. And that's because a few superstars can always take down a group of very good but not great players.
This thread is a great illustration of the proverbial half-full-half-empty mentality. I am more of a half-full kind of guy. As a fan, I don't know how else I can stay interested if I can only be happy when we win all the way.
Look, I'm hugely optimistic, generally speaking. I LOOK for the bright side. Sometimes I have to dig for it. But I'm soooo tired of moral victories for this franchise. You don't have to win a championship, but crap, compete for one every now and then. From 1980-1995 this team was in the NBA Finals 4 times....roughly 1 out of every 4 seasons this team was in the Finals. For over a decade now it's been about celebrating moral victories. This is PRO SPORTS!! These guys aren't amateurs just playing for the love of the game. Crap, let's just stop keeping score altogether. We'll just watch and cheer the effort, alone, like Fun Fair Kiddie Soccer.
hence the need for a superstar - just for the superstar calls alone. I dont think anyone can deny that DWade got some phantom calls on us. Some may argue that the FT advantage went our way, but the FT discrepancy should have been bigger in our favor. Those FT's given to the Heat got them back in the back and slowed our momentum.
I dont think the rockets should be proud of a loss. A loss is a loss wether losing by 1 or 40 now that dont mean we as fans cant be proud of there effort. I just want a move for a deffensive center made soon before we hit a trouble spot in the schedule again I fear digging a hole we cant dig out of again before the playoffs or sliping in as the 8th seed which is a tuff position to be in.
How long has our current management been in place? How long of that tenure have we been ravaged by injuries to our best players? Would you blame the problems and failures of the county's past administrations on the current one? No, we are not contenders now. But if there is one thing I am confident in, it is the hands that the Rockets are in now. We won't win a championship this year or maybe next year, but be assured that that is the ultimate goal, and that that is the path we are on. No, Morey and Co. do not have any magical powers. But they do have a diligence and competency that will give them an edge in the long run. The transformation will not be over night, the transition into a new era has already begun. If winning a championship or competing for one NOW is all that matters to you as a fan, then you will be missing the ride.
It was a home game. You really think that lowly of our team that you only give us a 10% chance of beating the Heat, when they're on a back-to-back and we're at home?
I'm not blaming anyone in that post...and I never ONCE called out Morey in all of that. I talked about the franchise I love...that's it. And again..I LITERALLY JUST SAID in the post you responded to: "you don't have to win a championship...." so clearly that's not all I'm holding the franchise to. Did you actually read what I posted or did you just hit submit on a reply?
What exactly do you think you are complaining about then? My point is what happened the last decade has nothing to do with now if it was a completely different management team. Did you actually read what I wrote or just have a problem comprehending it?
It has absolutely everything to do with it...because it's still the same franchise I've been a fan of for as long as I can remember...since I was a little kid. I'm not here because of Morey or any other person. I didn't care who was wearing the suits in the offices then, and I really don't care now. I care about the guys in red (and sadly in pinstriped blue for a short period) and the final score, ultimately. I want to see them win and win big. I want to see them compete. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect and hope for better than what they've given us over the last 10 years or so. Very few franchises have experienced the same playoff futility we have over that period. I'm tired of moral victories.
Being proud over any type of loss is a loser's mentality. You should only be proud if you win the game. Other then that its a disappointment.
I deal in the is now in the was. Now, I don't know what you do for a living, but in my business, its about results. Walmart doesn't care if one of my trucks broke down, but the guy almost got there. What they will do is send another truck to get the trailer from the terminal and charge back the milage and all the other fees associated with it. Now you can make excuse after excuse about why or what went wrong tonight, this season, or every season since we really had a chance which was 97. I'm about results, not giving every kid a ribbon because they played hard. For the record, I thought they would win anwhere between 44 and 50 games and be anywhere from a 5 to a 10 seed in the west. I still believe that with or without Yao. Its easy to look at this management in place and say, give them a chance and all this, but it doesn't matter to me. This team is no closer to contending than the lotto squad in 05. That doesn't mean they don't have some good players, but the nba and pro sports are about impact players making impact plays. The rockets like the texans have not been relevant for some time now. Guess what? The fan base off both keep making the same tired ass excuses. Morey has been in charge as long as rick smith and neither have done anything.
I've been as hard on the Rockets the last 2 years as anyone, but I must admit I was proud of the way they played last night. There are no moral victories in professional sports IMO, but we were totally out-matched talent-wise and we managed to make it a game until late. At least the Rockets play hard and don't constantly blow games to inferior opponents like the Texans do every Sunday. I still think building a team around Tenderfoot was a HORRIBLE idea that we are going to have to pay for for years to come.....but I did like the effort last night.
No one is telling you to care who is wearing suits in the offices. But at least acknowledge, or at least understand that they have SOMETHING to do with the team's chances going forward, and something to do with how the team did before. They are the ones putting the team together. You can root all you want for the guys in red but if we can't get the right guys we won't be going anywhere. And the fact that there has been a huge change in who is in charge the last 10 years means you can't just lump them all together. Good teams got there from good management, bad teams got there from bad management. We had bad-mediocre management for awhile, the reason for languishing for years. And now we have good management. But it will take a few years to get to where we want. It is easy to mope around about how long we have been irrelevant. Hey, I don't even blame you. But apparently that also makes you miss little details like who is actually in charge now.
