I can't believe that as a designer you wouldn't jump at the chance to work for a client that has high aspirations. What more would you want in a client? Looking at the Cavaliers logo I can guarantee that the dialog between the designer and client were much more mundane.
Quick, Name all the teams that you can that have their LOGO on the jersey. Other than the Jazz and the Rockets I can't think of any. Every other team in the NBA simply puts their name on the jersey. Look at Detroit and Dallas. They removed their logos from their jerseys. The rest never had logos on their jerseys.
Looks like the title credits for the next "Chucky" movie... Or the sequel to "The Shining". Anything's better than Jolly Roger Rocket and those nasty pajamas, though. Hey, at least maybe the LOGO will put the fear of God into some of our opponents (if nothing else).
This logo was made by some fan and altough needs some work is much much better than this sorry gothic looking R
What do you think make the ball gold , and make it a little more professional and i think it would be great. How many of you would have perferred something similar to this?
I am a little surprised... the new logo doesn't connect you with the sport of basketball. Nor does it connect you with the city of Houston. It seems static in a sport of speed and motion. You have to be told that the extensions off the R are rocket trails... otherwise they look like dripping blood. Compare that with the Texans logo. A very stylized image of a bull. Using all of the teams main colors. Even manages to get the lone star in there. It tilts forward, communicating movement. And even the font fits the design. Compare the logo with the old logo. Take away the teeth of the rocket and the old logo immediately looks less "cartoonish". And there is a basketball in the logo, so someone new to basketball will at least know what sport the Rockets play. I hate to agree with previous posters that describe this logo as trendy. Unfortunately, many teams prefer "trendy" unis and logos since updating either/both increases product sales. One last comment... someone in the "uniform" thread said they saw a logo that sounded pretty much like the one we now have.
It's definitely Gangsta-style as well. So, maybe we'll whoop ass on a few punks around the league too (AFTER we scare the bejeezus out of them with our horror-movie theme song during player introductions). Man, we should have Snoop Dogg do the first intros at the Rockets new arena. That would be AWESOME.
Who says it is bleeding? I don't see bleeding, its like a Rocket booster or smoke or a little design or something.. its not blood, I don't think. It's fine, its good.
the new rocket's team uniforms? i like some of the modifications to the logo (inverting the colors & the colored ring), but overall i'm happy enough with the logo. But then again i love japanesse anime/manga. I think it will look pretty sick on a black cap. Quite nasty (in a good way)!
This is not THE LOGO , only a portion of the overall design. So please people, put the knives down and back away before Les's feelings get hurt.
Kirby's comics were all about POWER. He could depict energy and power and characters that looked like they could actually jump out of the pages. New Gods, arguably his best work ever, is living proof of this. And yeah, I say the logo looks as cool as hell, though Jeff really has a point about the japanese animated hero and all...
Maybe they started listening to music and found this album cover as inspiration..... PLEASE NOTE: The dildo is still there boys......... It just doesnt have teeth this time..... It has flames!
No... its not original. And, can somebody please explain why the old rockets logo had a lower-case "e" and "t"? Imagine if the new logo had something that obscure, you guys would be all over it. Also, u guys are getting caught up in arguments about "it doesn't have a basketball...", "there is no two colors", "it doesn't say Houston!". ... honestly people, get real. The logo is simple - my initial recation was classy, retro, and trendy all in one - and it will definitly grow on you. Besides, the biggest impact you will see in the team's "image" will be its uniforms. Can anybody really vividly see the Mavs logo by memory? You'd lose details... its the uniforms that will be key.
I like it better than the old one. Simple, not corny or childish. What more do you guys expect? Its a logo, not some philoshophical symbol. sheesh.
Im sorry, but that is the ugliest logo I have ever seen. Our current/old logo blows that to smitherines. Please do not post this pic again!!
Bottom line to much input ruins a design. The artist has to have freedom to use his creativity. Logos can be very time consuming and the less input/interferance from the client, the better the design ends up. Ask the other designers in here, and they will tell you.
