I completely agree with Jeff. I did not like the name Texans but once the logo came out I was completely sold. The Texans logo kicks ass and is simple, timeless, and CLASSIC. All the Texans gear I have bough have the logo on since I love it so much. The Texans logo is probably the best new logo that has come out in a while. With this logo, I am pretty disappointed. I don't hate it yet it is rather bland and does not excite to purchase new gear. I think the old logo without the stupid grinning rocket is better than this. Tim you guys blew it big time.
I dont think the circle is supposed to be a launching pad. I think its supposed to be a bball hoop. Maybe if they would have added some netting or the outline of a basketball inside the cirlcle.
The more I look at it, the more I like it. It is both an H and R. The R resembles a rocket which is shooting through the H (resembling the basket). It is very original in terms of font and style. However, the one thing I don't like about it is that it only used one color. I personally like coddell's version better with the ring bieng gray and the rocket red.
I was never crazy about Kirby, something about the noses and the turned down mouths and all the characters looked the same. Neal Adams is a hall of famer. Err.... I like the logo.... j
sorry if this is posted already. i didn't see it. today's chat: Chris (Houston, Tx.): I was just wondering if you had the chance to check out the Rockets new logo. It's on the Houston Chronicle Website right now. Http://www.chron.com Ken Bikoff: (5:36 PM ET ) I'm a fan. I hate the Nuggets' new colors and logo, but I don't have a problem with the Rockets' logo. It's a good fit, it makes sense and I think it will be a solid addition. Don't even get me started on the Nuggets, though.
On second thought, maybe the dripping blood is intentional, and that's part of the overall schema for the unis. Weird scars and blood-streaks all down the shorts. Turbo could squirt fake blood out of some watergun. Maybe the power dancers will have goth makeup and ashen cheeks. When Les said he wanted to open the arena with a big splash, who knew it would be in the form of some creepy pagan ritual?
a few things I haven't seen mentioned and a few things I have: a) I don't think the Chronicle's presentation of the logo did it any favors, and I don't think it helps that that's where most of us saw it for the first time. having it cramped in amongst newstype is not necessarily the most flattering view of it. b) I agree with those who have said it resembles a very Asian character. I like that aspect of it. c) as far as "gothic", it's not ridiculously so as I was fearing it to be. d) I like the "R" by itself much better than when it's surrounded by Houston and ockets. e) in the end, I think it's definitely better than the one we're leaving behind, but I don't think they hit a Home Run by any stretch. on a 1-10, I'd give it a 6.
I know I already said I didnt like it but feel i needed to post again. This logo definately is not timeless and classic. Think of the timeless logos in the league today. Lets see we have the Lakers, Celtics, Knicks.... probably more but those are some major ones. Now think of all 3 of those designs- ALL of those have more than 1 color on them(and colors that are complimentary to each other-Purple/gold Green/White Orange/Blue) and do not consist of a giant letter. Imagine the uproar from lakers fans if their logo had been changed to a giant bleeding L with a ring around it. This logo has to be the worst in the league. Another thing why were the rockets so secretive about the whole process. Wouldnt it have been better to get a little fan feedback on logo designs? I know probably no team in the nba has done this, but what team has dissapointed there fans so much like the Rockets have with the last uniforms/logos?? Theres a reason no team has a giant LETTER as a logo, because it SUCKS!
Why hasn't an enterprising eager-beaver set up a decent poll here on the logo? I don't the think the Chronicle poll will necessarily have the same results we'd come up with.
The logo is way too skinny & lacks vitality... it dosn't have a strong visual impact from a distance if you ask me... no wonder no one picked it up over the past 2 weeks... Why do I get the feeling that I can design this logo in 15 mins? Why am I thinking that the logo is a "font" with another 25 variations for other letters? Ahhh!!!
My main complaint with our last logo was that there was no "Houston" on it. We screwed up even more by not having "Houston" on our road uniforms. This logo is just horrible. The "R" doesnt mention Houston at all... I am praying to GOD that we do not only have this stinkin R on our new jerseys. The font that says "Houston" and "Rockets" on the full logo will not look bad on the new jerseys. But if it is only a big "R' on our new jerseys, I seriously am considering committing suicide. This team is my life, and I don't understand how these horrible decisions are being made.
I think that it looks great. Just a few comments: 1- I'm very happy that they didn't go retro. Retro is just a lousy excuse for not having the confidence to try something new. 2- I like the aesthetic and font of the logo. It is simple and at the same time is completely different from any logo in the league. 3- I really like the simple design with one color. They could have just as well gone with multi colors or a more 3-dimensional logo, but they decided not to, and I don't have any problem with that. Just a simple decision that turned out well I think. Any of these choices could have been executed nicely. I can site good and bad logos that are simple, 3D, multi color.... you name it. 4- The slightly "unsophisticated" and "underdesigned" appearance that many of you have said you didn't like is what I like about it more than anything. It is unpretentious, it will look good on a baseball cap, and it will appeal to many age groups. Keep in mind that the logo is for clothing. It isn't something that appears completely by itself, so it is deceiving to evaluate it in the vacuum of a web-site. I could find a context that the old logo would look good in.... it just isn't clothing. Good job to Tim and the rest of the Rockets! I feel bad that people are reacting negatively to it. Give it a little time, and see what you think after you see the uniforms. The Rockets have hired a great person to design them and I would put money on their success.
O.K., but I could have done better; needs more colors. Basically, I don't care. If the team plays well, I don't care what they look like! As they say, an ugly rich girl looks prettier every day!
Doc, no offense intended, but you may be too used to looking at dripping blood. Solid, most of us will abdicate to your way of thinking in the long run.
I really like it. It looks very clean and simple. I also like the way thay use the symbol of both "H" and "R" ,"basket" and "rocket". Being Simple is good and will last longer. Being flashy may be good on the first look but will get tired very quickly.
Yeah.... the same criticism that many designers/artists are subjected to (Maya Lin, Jackson Pollack). Why don't you try. You've got 15 minutes.
