Spot on Tigereye, but then again, that's what you've been. Oh, and thanks for deflecting the heat I'm going to get for my usual occasional rant. Good job.
You mean spotlight on ME? Get outta' town. You gotta be kiddin me, right? I can actually care less about that. Its just a forum, not Star Search. Besides, those are just my thoughts and opinions. That's what I come here for.
I believe I was the one who said I liked the ATR logo and didn't like our new logo I may not be a designer or anything, but I am a consumer and a fan. I know what I like and I trust my tastes. The logos are different IMHO, and they convey different messages. Also, the ATR logo is designed with the letters "A", "T", and "R" being clearly visible. Our logo is an R with a rocket for the left half of it. Everything else is open to interpretation, it's what Tim said on the radio about the hoop/elipse. And what's up with all the "ya'll needs to stop bein' biatches and worship the logo already" statements? I just don't like it, is that a crime? Have I asked for the logo to be traded for another logo and a bag of peanuts? Have I started thread after thread after thread after thread . . .etc to complain about it? I've kept it in here, I've been straight forward, and I've been coherent. I haven't demanded change, I haven't called Tim out or emailed him to complain. I haven't proclaimed that I will stop being a Rockets fan or that the orginization was inept. Why do I keep posting? Because I keep reading things like the above statement or "what will it take to please some of you people," or "some people will complain about anything." To set the record straight, complaining about the Rockets, well that just doesn't describe me. When it comes to the orginization and it's players (including Moochie), I'm pretty much a homer. I guess when I've had to sit through some of ya'lls countless threads about trading players and firing coaches and managers and getting so fed up with the crap in the GARM forum that I stay away for most of the season, well I guess I just find it a bit ironic that the same people are telling me stop disliking the new logo. Who knows, maybe I just feel a little let down because I've defended the orginization regardless of what's happened the last 4 years and I don't know how to deal with a decision I disagree with. In summary, I don't like the new logo, but I'm sure the jerseys will kick ass.
OH GOD! I hate to see how the new logo will look on NBA Live 2004? Who was smoking what when they thought this was "The Next BIG Thing!?" Hate to also see their jersey too! I didn't want them to change logo, I wanted the Rockets to change their uniforms. This is going to take a lot of time for me to adjust to it.
Haven't read anything past this, but I just got back from out of town and just looked at the logo, and this was the absolute furtherst thought from my mind. In fact, if you take away the fact that it is all one color (which I don't like), the thing this logo reminds me the most of in the entire world is the New York Yankees logo, which is, undoubtedly, the most recognizable sports logo in North America, if not the world, having survived the test of time extremely well. Other things to note about the logo is it will certainly look very very good on a cap - YAY, I can finally sport a Rockets basketball hat - and, imo opinion, is surprisingly bold for being so simple. I really liked it.
A lot of the other pictures have made me laugh. The running of the bulls picture was a classic. But this one ... this one's now my wallpaper. Whoever posted about how fabrics can influence a PMS color -- you're absolutely correct. What colors you use as surrounding trim can also affect how your eye sees it. (All the black trim makes the Bulls red seem darker than it is, for example.) In their style guide, PMS 200 is listed as the official red they use. But yes, it can be hard to get fabrics dead on the PMS. All told, red is probably the trickiest color to work with on clothing because it has a high tendency to bleed and change color. That's why Reebok took a great deal of time getting our fabric right -- they wanted to put it through some pretty intensive fading and bleeding tests. (You don't want to have pink uniforms after the first wash.) Now that they've done all the color-fast testing, they're producing the fabric. And then the jerseys. And then we'll show everybody what we got. Glad to see so many people coming around after getting to spend some time with the logo. I know not everybody has adopted it yet (I'd probably be worried if that were the case), but all the stories from people saying it's really grown on them once they saw it in use (as opposed to on a news website surrounded by text) are good to hear -- it matches the way we thought people would react based on the feedback we were getting throughout the design process. Tim
BTW, I think it looks freaking great in this balck/white format and the similarities to the Yankees logo become even more obvious.
JayZ750, I can't recommend poring through the whole thread. I like the logo too. But it was shocking to me and for something so simple I'm still surprised. The whole thread suggests were being spoon-fed here and that might be the only reason to rehash all the angst. This is marketing at it's best. Kudos again Tim. And if they can make it here, they can make it... Oh, puke.
Agree wholeheartedly. I went to the All-Star game in Atlanta this year, and I can tell you first hand that the logo in white on a red hat would have been one of the most popular ones in the arena amongst all the "inner-city'ish" (sorry, I don;t know how else to describe them) fellas all wearing some sort of retro jersey with a new hat or vice versa. And, it also appeals to the younger crowd, imo, such that kids will like it. Whatever....I really like it. Great work Tim & gang.
