The new logo is only good. And the logo must be something special. Is the image of the franchise and city, and I think with this logo that will be "simple". Where is the silver color?. Silver around the "R" or around the circle would do it more beautiful. Es "soso". Simple. The idea and form of the logo is very good, but the result and the colours(the color)not. But I´m not negative, so I hope in the future it likes me more. And sure, this will be the Rocks logo for a looong time. NOW I WANNA SEE THE UNIFORMS!!!
What I remember reading was that they hired her to do the unis, she had some ideas for the logo as well, and the Rockets went for it.
I just want to say that Rocketeer's wallpaper totally sold me on the logo. I proudly display the silver logo on red now. This is a great logo, it's just that the very first presentation of it is pretty unimaginative. I mean, if they had showed one of Rocketeer's versions, or even the wallpaper from rockets.com at the Astros game there probably wouldn't have been booing. (I was at the game, but I didn't boo since I had seen it earlier). I would love to have a hat that is black with the red logo outlined in silver. How tight would that be? That said, the outline, the design for the symbol is great.
By the way, you guys who put Mr. Hat in the bullrun and on Hef's cake are awesome. Not only were those really original, but they looked damn nice too. I hope Tim sends y'all some free hats or something. Maybe a copy of Chance's Greatest Hit cd.
First off, I dont understand why so many people dont like the new logo. Everyone at other tema sites I have been to absolutely love it. Its simple, yet sleek as promised and as you requested it to be. And some even complain "why not give the fans a chance to provide input on the new logo." I wonder whan was the last time those fans went to Rockets.com? And to think, if the Rockets actually listened to everyone's request and actually tried to address them all, we might have to wait a decade before they could come up with a design to make everyone happy. Think about it seriously. If Tom liked the "glory days" logo, Dick liked the "grinning dildo" logo, and Harry liked them both, we might have something liek this as our logo if the Rockets tried to address all of there requests. Considering all of the requests the Rockets marketing staff had to deal with, I think they did a terrific job with this new logo and need to be given credit for it. Because NO 5 year-old could design a logo to possibly fill all of those logo requests. And I cant believe so many people insist that the logo looks like a bad mock off of the Quake logo. What garbage. The quake logo is so simple it could look like anything on this planet. Besides, I dont see a giant "R" in the Quake logo. In fact, all I see is half of an ellipse and three lines. So if the Rockets copied the Quake logo, I guess the Quake logo was a slight copy of the Van Halen Logo. If there is any logo the even closely resembles the Rockets new logo, its the "Above the Rim" logo, coincidently produced by Reebok which is making the Rocks new gear. Like the Rockets new logo, the ATR logo features an "R" flying through an ellipse used to symbolize a hoop. In fact, the only real difference between the logos is that the ATR logo has an "A" along with the "R." Now I dont see everyone all up in arms complaining about the ATR logo, about how corporate it looks, about how evil it looks, about how simple it looks, yada yada yada................. In fact, its gear sells pretty hot right now. And so will the new Rockets gear.
you people are so damn bitter about a freaking logo, its better then the last one, quit complainging, the Rockets have bigger fish to fry than to worry about a logo..chizill
I just found out today that we got a new logo, so I felt the need to post that this logo sucks so far. I trust that it will get adjusted and look fine on a uniform when it's all said and done though. So far, it's boring...and it makes me look forward to the next new logo 10 years from now... By the way, my unartistic self made a crappy logo about 2 weeks ago, and I don't think it's that much worse than what we ended up with...which is extremely disappointing...
I like the ATR logo, though it doesn't look corporate to me, nor does it look like a TEAM logo. It is clearly designed to invoke images of the street and streetball, which is what ist's supposed to do as the logo for a basketball shoe. It also has that kind of hard to decipher graffitti look to it, but it doesn't take much to make out A, T, and R. I'm just glad we got the new arena because without a clearly defined "H" on our new logo, a move to another city would be just that much easier.
NOW THATS CLASSIC!!! Dear Tim, I love the new logo, but it looks better with fire flames instead of the ice things but I still think the logo will get major play this year because of it being distinguished it's simple but it stands out the most out of any logo in the nba! good job Tim. Big Ray
from Tigereye: Tigereye, many props to your spot-on hints about the logo and putting up with the ridiculous junk hurled your way. You might have made a misstatement above when you said "Like the Rockets new logo, the ATR logo features an "R" flying through an ellipse used to symbolize a hoop". This isn't directed at you, but at so many moronic posts by people who hate the logo that apparently haven't looked at it. The "R" is not flying through an ellipse. Some posters here have altered it to where it does. And I don't get it. Why would "a Rocket" launch from directly underneath a hoop? We play in the NBA, not on the Globetrotter circuit. There is no bisecting line from the ellipse into the R/H/h on the logo. There is a clear black outline of the ellipse too. On the hats, I admit it's not defined, but why would NBA fans suppose it's going through the ellipse going upward? Tim must have really been shaking his head and grinning at this stuff, he's said you can't trust first impressions in these situations. It's "a Rocket" rocketing above the rim to do what it intends to do: which in current vernacular would be "apply a facial". If you really hate something you should at least look at it. Compaq Center and the new arena is 10 minutes away from the museum district. I'm sure they need increased civic patronage, but for a lot of posters here, I recommend you don't bother. My question is, how can you perceptively watch a live NBA game played in hyper-split-second moments when you can't look at a static object and realize what you see? I cry foul. In MacBeth's case, not guilty in this particular instance, I cry "Howl!".
Well, after strolling through 23 pages, seeing the insight of Tim, the designs of Rocketeer, and the various photos of the new logo in exotic locations, I will make my opinion known. First impression....Tuesday.......9:02 PM.... I got off work. Turned on my cell and to my surprise got a text messge from a friend in Houston (I moved from H-Town to Chicago 2 yrs back). This message stated that "new rox logo unveiled.....colors red/silver/black....." I was utterly shocked at this news and dissapointed because I wanted to be one of the first to see it. I came home and rushed online to see what had taken place and lo' and behold we have this thread with its enormous quantity of posts. I see the logo for the very first time......and here is my response..... ......then a short while after...............and following a few minutse talking with other NBA fans that are friends of mine..... ........Now, I was utterly devastated that the logo in my opinion @ the time SUCKED ASS. It was very very simple, simple to the point where I felt that I could'a easily whipped it up in 5 minutes on photoshop. Another thing that bugged me was, "WHAT THE HELL IS BLOOD DRIPPING OFF OF THE R FOR?!?!?.....followed by a few more minutes of..... ......I started spoting off to everyone about how bad it was, how i was so dissapointed, and how i waited so long for such a ****ty logo. I went to sleep thta night horrified. The logo looked like a buffy/quake/gothic crossover and it sickened me to the point where i was up til 2 a.m. (YES, IT IS THE TRUTH) I woke up the next morning and went through the whole day without talking about it. Also proceeded to do the same the next day. Now here we are Thursday evening. Thursday evening.....7:40ish.....No work today.... I come back from playin ball outside....log back on......y'know, to see if good ol' Tim said anything.......to my surprise........I see the rockets logo in a "new light"......before I saw only the blood dripping, the ugly one color blend......but now......now it was different. You see, now I saw a R, blasting off and leaving a ring of dust. Now I saw a lower case "h" hidden in the R. Now I saw a simple logo that made a statement, and the statement was bold, creative, and yet down to earth. This, I LIKED. I LIKED ALOT. I liked so much to the point that now, I may start switchin the colors up and playing with it a bit. As you might know, if you are a avid poster/lurker/reader here, I'm pretty good at photoshop if I should say so myself, and had designed many uniforms and logos back in the day when we were lost and confused. I was the one who partnered with Rocketeer to put different spins/colorways on those beautiful jersey's he came up with. If you don't know what I'm talking about, maybe you should go take a look at one of the hundreds of threads. Check the latest ones with the grey/red/blue colorways. I think I also did them in yellow/red. Anyways, the point being, now that I have come to like this logo, I plan on working with it, perhaps changing the blastoff ring to silver, hitting it with a shadow. I may not LOVE this logo, but I get closer and closer to it everyminute. Now, I can support my team. Now, I can be proud. Now, now is the time for you people who are hating, to stop hating, start participating, and let this logo start exhilirating............... NOW IS THE TIME FOR YOUR 2004 HOUSTON ROCKETS !
Wow much thanks and PROPS to you for all your props to me. I really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. As for your point, I kinda understanding what your getting at. But bear in mind, my description of the "R" and the hoop was just a quick description. I guess I could have gone about it the long way describe in through fashion, but I didnt want to bore anyone on the board with my book explaining the logo and its intricacies. After all, its just a logo (not even the official version of it mind you) and I am sure everyone would understand what I was getting at weather I went about with a short explaination or a long drawn-out one. The basic and main point of my last post was.......... ..............how could poeple not like the new logo but like the "ATR" logo? How can they call the new logo "too corporate" and "almost-satanic" and then look at the "ATR" logo and go "that's cool." There basicly the same design concept. That's like saying, "I HATE Ford Expeditions, but I LOVE those Navigators!" There almost the same exact thing. ..............to get people to understand that No 5 year-old (not even if they were Picasso's kid) can design any logo under the circumstances the Rockets marketing staff was under. The pressure to satisify all of the requests of a very large fan base, the pressure to create a logo that will sell merchandise itself, to satisify the media, to satisify players who are worried they might have to play in ridiculous clown suits again, to satisify an owner in order to keep there job..............Some grown ups cant even handle this much pressure. Just stop complaining and give it up to Tim and the ENTIRE Rockets staff............they did a helluva job and make me proud to say I am a Rockets fan. Remember, it could have been a helluva alot worse. Be thankful for what you got.
