Too many posts to catch everything, but ... Regarding our red being "too pink" -- you might want to check your monitor. Red PMS 200 is, it turns out, the same red used by the Bulls. (There are only really a few basic reds that don't shade too far towards orange or purple, to be honest.) Now, even if I concentrate VERY HARD, I can't remember anybody accusing the Bulls of playing in pink uniforms. If I fell asleep and missed something in the '90s, please send a tape, and we'll apologize for our oversight. Fans told us to bring back red as the dominant color. We did. Fans told us to create a simpler logo. We did. We weren't going to put a bunch of logos up here for a vote. We got fan feedback upfront. We used it. But if we put a bunch of logos up here for a vote and waited for the board to settle on a logo that EVERYBODY agreed to ... we'd be debuting new uniforms sometime in 2020. (If you don't understand that, you don't read this board enough ... the magic is in the chaos.) The pictures of the hat in London didn't cost us a dime, by the way. A staffer was travelling there on vacation. She took the hat, she took the photos. We thought they were fun. We're going to encourage all fans to show the hat in out-of-the way locations. Get creative enough, and I'll give you something. Not sure what ... but something. Try me. I'll think of something good. Special bonus prize for a shot near the pyramids, Great Wall, or Eiffel Tower. And we will have a big uniform launch bash. That will be in September. Having two bashes (one for the logo, one for the uniform) would have been overkill. Last -- the most common e-mail I got today at work was along the lines of "dude, I really trashed the first logo when I first saw it, but now that I've seen it some more, it's really started to grow on me." (Rocketeer's textural translations and seeing the logo on hats were the reason most cited for the change of heart.) We tried to design a logo that would grow on people, as opposed to one that would get a great first glance review but would wear out its welcome fast. (See previous logo for reference.) Whoever pointed that out upstream (sorry for not mentioning you by name; it's several pages up) made a pretty insightful comment. On to catch up with the other few hundred messages about the logo ... Tim
I love the new logo. It has a strong flavor of supremacy over everybody else, kind of "I AM different and I am here to rule for a long time" message. An image of the new dynasty. If they assigned the design job to me or some fans who claimed they could do it in 15 minutes, let's see. We would probably include a basketball, a net and a lunching rocket in it. Just like we would probably insert a pair of sneakers in Nike's logo, a cash register in IBM's logo, or a telephone in AT&T's. Yikes!!!
Here's hoping that what we've been seeing is the secondary logo, which will appear on the shorts or as a tiny logo below the collar. Is a primary to come? [crossing fingers]
Actually I was kidding about the Rockets spending thousands to take an inanimate object on a trip around the world.
Dammit I love the logo and am flying to Mongolia on Friday If I had a hat I would be the first to get a picture of it in central Asia with a bunch of nomads. C'mon Tim, Fedex me a hat ASAP !!!
Hah. Fax me a copy of your plane ticket and I'll gladly overnight you a hat. I'm sure the nomads will love it. Please stick it on the head of a llama. You get the idea. Tim
If my flight wasn't at 7 am on friday and the fedex would get to me in time, I really would... btw, Llamas are south America man, it would be a Yak you're thinking of, ...
Give him the address of your hotel. I want to see the hat on a Yak. Sorry Tim, that might be expensive.
That's me. Always getting my yaks and llamas confused. Good thing I didn't throw camels in there. Tim
expensive and dangerous, look at those horns. THis mitght be a job for photoshop. Oh, and Tim, as a matter of fact they do have camels in Mongolia, so you're not doing so bad.
Tim, When the uniforms are unveiled in September will we be able to buy the authentic ones? or will only the reebok replicas be for sale. I know this is the last year Nike is making the swingman jersey so I'll only buy the authentic cause i don't like the replicas. Oh and by the way I don't live in Houston so will i be able to buy em online? thanks and the logo looks great.
Tim, You should send the Rocket's favourite Aussie Fan a cap I know the office loves me, tell Wegs I had a great time. Smeg
Tim, Being in the organization for a while, what was the rationale for changing the uniform in 1995. That has never been made clear (to me at least). And after looking at it for day, I still don't like it. But I can live with it (exhibiting extreme reluctance and dissatisfaction) if you play more than one game a year in the 1994 jerseys. (I don't want to say retro because they should still be current.)
Too easy Tim, now where is my prize? [/IMG] Jusk kidding, I did these in photoshop... but I guess this will gives you a good preview...
Well, I agree with the previous poster who said that it looked like a first draft. I think it had/has potential, but they just quit too soon. I did a real rough revision, shortening the jetstreams, changing the ring color, skewing it 20 degrees and decreasing vertical height by 30%, and I think it's a LOT better. Kinda retro-y, but not in a cheesy way, I think. Comments?
