I didnt like that we snatched another scorer instead of a wing stopper/rebounder :(

head didn't have nearly the handles of canaan, nor the ability to shoot off the dribble. he was probably a better defender though

The way I look at it, outside of the lotto picks, when you get into this range, it could easily be hit or misss. So draft order doesn't matter as much. Unless you're really confident in a guy panning out, I'd rather have more wagers. So having two extra 2nd round picks at a later stage would double the chances of one of them panning out.

Rocket's BIGGEST problems was inability to guard the wings and turnover issues. What did we drafted? A guy that can't guard and is one of the worst ball handlers in the draft. How anyone think this is a good pick is beyond me.

I like the pick. He'll add scoring and depth at the 1, and could see some time at the 2 in certain matchups. Will see a lot of time with the Vipers, but I think he could eventually be a solid bench addition in Houston. Needs to cut down on his turnovers, and improve his defense, but that's what the development league is for, and our program is the best, IMO. The guy can light it up, and is quick enough, and strong enough, to get his shot off. Will help spread the floor. Won't be a great point, but I can easily see him eventually getting some minutes off the bench. People compared him the AB, and that certainly isn't a slam. He's stronger than Brooks, and could be a better defender, given time.

Really, the guy is a typical surprise Morey selection in the second round. Four years of college, so he should contribute sooner, rather than later. I think people are going to end up really liking Canaan, and his name is something we'll have endless fun with.

    The Toy Canaan!

(yeah, I'm an old Astros fan)

I've learned not to judge draft picks based on clutchfans armchair gm/scouts.

Chad Ford on Canaan: [rQUOTEr]"I like Canaan a lot. I think his season at Murray State was a bit underrated, because they lost all the talent really on that team and forced Canaan into some positions that maybe he wouldn't normally be in. His age is the biggest thing I'm concerned about, but he's a good athlete, has an NBA body, shoots the basketball. [Think?] like a player who might not ever be a starter in the NBA, but might be a really nice backup point guard in the league and can be a little bit of scoring guard, too."[/rQUOTEr]

David Locke (Jazz play by play guy):[rQUOTEr] "I love [Canaan], except that there are a lot of plays... and unfortunately a lot of plays, where he just quits. Where, if he's on defense and gets picked, he doesn't fight through it. If it's a fastbreak the other way, he just doesn't run back. And that makes my stomach turn. [...] I love a lot about Canaan, expect for that."[/rQUOTEr]

GREAT scorer and shooter, esp. from 3... Avg. lateral quickness, questionable effort on D sometimes, can be a downright terrible defender. Oh he'll fit in alright. ;)
