So basically, what this thread amounts to is that you have given up on the Rockets heading into the playoffs and want to dump Francis or someone with a huge salary. Ok. How about letting the Rockets play ONE playoff game before assuming they're going to get swept. One thing I hate is that fans of the other playoff teams are excited about the playoffs and having fun, and we have threads with people wanting to dump players and already giving up on the playoffs. I mean, it must suck to already give up on the Rockets going into the playoffs instead of sitting back and having fun!

No. What this thread amounts to is looking for a way to make this team play every night like they did last night. Francis & Yao play two different kinds of games that clash with each other. All I've attempted to do is move some players out & some players in that are more compatible with each other. With Francis max'd out & Yao most likely being max'd out in two years, we'll be in the same financial boat as the Lakers, with one huge exception. Francis/Yao are nowhere near similar to Kobe/Shaq.

The problem with this board, is that there are too many fans of individual players, rather than fans of the Rockets. I suspect that when Francis is traded (and he will be traded), some of those Francis fans will follow him to his next team, only to be heard from when he has a good game.

I hope the Rockets prove me wrong & go far in the playoffs, but I'll be very surprised if they do. In fact, I'll do you one better. I'll be extremely shocked & surprised if Francis doesn't decide to take the game over & go on a one man one-on-one dribble crusade to prove that he can beat any player on the floor. Did he learn anything tonight while watching MJ run the team like a well oiled machine? We'll see, but I doubt it. Maybe, he'll step his game up, especially since he'll be on a national stage for the world to see. That'll help us get more for him when we trade him.:p

Everyone says "it would depend on Chandler's health" but that's already factored in. If Chandler's health wasn't an issue, it would be an unfair trade.

The risk that we're taking with Chandler's back problems is what makes this trade more equal. If Chandler was 100% healthy, Chicago wouldn't be giving up on him, because he wouldn't have missed a bunch of games.

We get a little too young with this trade though. I'm a bit hesistant to take on Hinrich and Chander, both of whom haven't learned how to win YET. They will learn, but do I want them doing it on OUR time? Not so sure.

This team would probably also have problems scoring. Chandler and Hinrich are booth poor FG% players, Battier can't carry a team, and the bench isn't really superb.

It's a close call, and I'd probably pull the trigger. But it would be real smart to snatch a top-notch veteran F with our TE.

How about I tweak it a bit.

I don't like the Memphis deal. We lose out getting Battier and Outlaw for Boki and Cato. You've swapped Cato for Jerome + Battier - Outlaw is useless. I'd just as soon keep Cato, and trade him somewhere else. Why not package Cato with Mobley to Indiana, for Harrington and Pollard? Why not package Steve and Cato to Toronto for Carter, Marshall and Mo Pete? Why not Steve and Cato 3 way to Portland for Ray Allen, Derrick Anderson, and Vlad Step? We can do better.

Taylor to Seattle : good. Seattle wants a beefy guy at 4 that can run and score. I would prefer to get Brent Barry and Vlad Rad back, to Jerome James and Antonio Daniels. Sund has said he'd like to do a S&T with Barry and get back a 4. I would sweeten the deal with Boki if I had to - I really like Radmanovic at the 3 with Yao.

Finally, you still have Mobley. You must trade him. He's not Yao's freind. We'd be much better off with a replacement 2 that WANTS to pass Yao the ball, and KNOWs how to work a 2 man game off of him. Cat's a great guy and all that, but we can do better.

Your end result is a knuckleballing defensive team. I would prefer to get great shooters to go with our finesse center, and let JVG use his supposedly great defensive mind to come up with a superior scheme to help them with that. Let him earn his money.

    Sane,

The trade also leaves us with about $10 million in cap space. We could pick up a real nice veteran player with that. As for Hinrich & Chandler not knowing how to win yet, that's where JVG & Jim Jackson would come in. Then you can add in the valuable experience that our guys are going to get in the playoffs this year & I think that will neutralize their inexperience. Also, Hinrich hasn't been around long enough to develop any bad habits & Chandler is still young enough to be molded into a complete player by JVG & Ewing.

The primary scoring punch could be handled by Yao, Battier, JJ, & Mobley (6th man?).

    pasox2,

There's a lot of different ways we could go with trades. My intent was to get rid of the 3 albatross contracts of Francis/Taylor/Cato, pick up some young complimentary talent to put around Yao (remember, he's only 23 years old), & significantly reduce our team salary so that we can pick up a FA or two during the off season.

How'd you like to be financially able to make a run at Boozer, Gasol, Gary Payton, Karl Malone (if he doesn't retire), Swift, Tinsley, Richard Jefferson,Kenyon Martin, SAR, Randolph, T-Ratliff, Parker, Turkoglu, Stephen Jackson (with JJ & MJ, we'd have the makings of the Jackson 5 :D), etc.

There's even more on that list & it doesn't even include the players that could opt out of their contracts like Peja & Webber.

Now, most of those teams will resign their players, but with $10 million to play with, we could force some of them to make some hard decisions. How about a S&T with Cleveland? We send them Chandler & they send us Boozer.

    Sane,
Chandler is actually a career .502 f\g percentage. Pretty good IMO. His percentage this year was actually very good prior to his injury when he was hitting about 50% of his shots.

I love the trade. Yao Ming and Tyson Chandler would give us one hell of a big front line.

In that case, I like it. But with that 10M we need to pick up a vetran scoring PF. Aren't many out there right now, but someone like Juwan Howard would be very nice - he brings experience, a scoring punch, and rebounds. Donyell Marshall maybe?

I sure hope we're not relying on Battier for scoring punch.

    crash,

I worry that the reason his FG% dropped is because teams are letting him shoot now. His FGA went upearly in the season, and his FG% went down with that.

Regardless, my problem is not with him. I am a huge fan of his, I think he would form a tremendous tandem with Yao. PERFECT for this team, his shotblocking, youth and energy could replace Cato, while being so young that we could hope for him to develop a better offensive game.
