This was meant to be a trade suggestion post as pointed out.

Kirilenko would be nice - but I don't think Utah is stupid enough to deal him. Harpring could be a different story . . .

It still seems like Toronto could part with some useful talent.
Rose is their worst contract - about 14 mil through 2006-07
    Donyell (5.03 mil, expiring) and
EWilliams (1st year of a 3yr 12 mil contract) also want to be traded and are available.
MoT is our worst contract (8 mil through 2006-07). Although we have a few others that are dubious (Ward?, Howard at 5+ though 2007-08, Spoon 5.5 though 2005-06).

Spoon and MoT's salaries almost match up with Rose - Fair deal? Probably not because it is too much in our favor, even by taking the larger contract.
Would adding in Ward make it a salary match - and more fair? Probably makes it more unfair.
(Spoon's contract expires sooner, but who is worth more, Rose or MoT? - I think Rose is worth a lot more)
Combine that with trading the TE for Donyell - which probably would be in our favor also. Try to add in a deal for EWilliams, for Ward+ Bowen+ Gaines, etc.
The deal is close to fair, so maybe we have to add draft picks to make the deal work - but only if the coaching staff thinks Rose is better than MoT(who IMO is useless).
In sum, Rose, EWilliams and Donyell for MoT, Spoon, Ward, TE, #1, plus others (Gaines/Bowen).

It would leave us with the same starters, but our backups would pack some pop:
    Sura - Rose/Barry
    Wesley - Barry/Rose
    TMac - EWilliams/Padgett
    Juwan - Marshall/Padgett
    Yao - Mutum

And, then we only have one contract that is obviously bad - Rose. But, his presence would be worth more than MoT and Spoon who do not benefit from playhing with Yao and TMac (Rose may benefit from and/or complement them).

What about a Gaines + 2nd to the Wiz for Blake + Samaki Walker(filler)?

Blake would a real nice backup PG for the team.

I was thinking the same thing.

Why would they deal a lottery pick for a trade exception?

It's more than likely going to be a lottery pick, so they're obviously not a trade away from being a contender, so the TE is worthless to them.

Just deal MoT for Jerome Williams or Derek Anderson, and then stop talking about trades.

Are you sure we're not giving too much? Maybe we should just offer them Ward (after all he did win the Heisman).

Have you actually watched Baron Davis? Baring injury he's one of the top point guards in the league and they are not give him up for our trash even including a trade exception.

Even if NO decides to have a fire sale there is no way we could get him for MoT & TE. BD is one of the premire point guards in the league and even if we could get him for 1/2 our team, I'm still not sure we would want him. He is a player that needs the ball to be effective (see how many 3's he's attempted in how many games he's played). He's awesome on my fantasy team (minus the injuries) but in that league you don't have to share the ball. Personally, I'd still take a gamble on him if we could get him cheap, but there will be many other takers for a player with his capabilities willing to give up a lot more thatn MoT and a TE.

And now we're seeing how much we miss Sura. We'd be destroying Seattle if he were playing.

MoT for DA is looking better all the time. DA & Sura would be able to handle our pg duties.

A Strickland/Barrett backcourt is a good thing? Sura is out indefinitely, there is almost no telling when he will be back. IF the Rockets want to keep up the winning, we need to find a replacement for Sura quick.

Strickland/Barrett combined for 0 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 TOs, there is no way we win with that kind of production from our PG.

MoT for DA needs to get done.

I was very much advocating that they leave well enough alone and do the tinkering in the offseason. With Sura out indefinitely, there is a real need to get someone else in here. No one could or should rely on Strickland, Barrett, or Ward as your pg's. I'd just assume pluck someone out of the CBA than use either of these guys. Jemeil Rich is averaging 16 ppg, 9.8 apg & 3 spg. Randy Livingston is having a very nice season.

Speaking of the CBA, anyone notice that Sam Mack is the leading scorer in the league right now at 21.7 ppg? I didn't realize he was still playing.

Give me a break, getting Jalen Rose would do nothing to address our primary needs of getting a tough, defensive minded PF or get some assurance in the backcourt. And don't give me this Jalen Rose "point-forward" crap. The guy would like to think he's a good ball handler when in reality he's just as turnover prone as the next overrated, overpaid GF bum that everybody thinks would improve this team.

Rose is soft, a bad defender and has shot selection issues. Basically, the guy would be nothing but a headache and would only contribute when he's knocking shots down---otherwise you have yet another Fab Five Michigan scumbag player getting overpaid to do only contribute sometimes.

I posted this in the First Rounder For GP Thread, and wanted to get your ideas on the possibility of getting Sam Cassell:

"I have to say I'm somewhat surprised at the lack of love for Cassell here. I'm not sure how much of a "discontent" he would be coming back here to play for the Rox.

I don't think I would give up my pick 1st rounder for Payton, but I would seriously consider the notion for getting Sam I Am. The guy's a proven winner and a proven winner leader. I think there's the possibility of great excitement surrounding this team with the acquisition of Cassell ... Rejuvenated credibility and confidence even in the face of Bobby Sura's injuries.

We could rest easy knowing we'll be armed with one of the most clutch performers (let alone pg's) in the game for years. Sam is a gamer ... just like Sura, just like Jon B., just like Wesley, just like Deke. He'd be an awesome fit for our squad. Just imagine the PNR options, the mid range jumper, the pay-for-leaving-me-open trey, the penetration in the lane, the threat on the break.

If we can keep our pick, please do. But I'd be enthusiastically entertaining any number of ways of bringing Sam Cassell back to Houston."

Does anyone know what Minnesota is looking for in return? Does anyone know if the Rockets have considered this?
