How about a swap of a bunch of bad contracts:

    Houston trades:
PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes)
PG Charlie Ward (5.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.1 apg in 25.7 minutes)
SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.2 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.6 minutes)

    Houston receives:
PG Derek Fisher (12.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.1 apg in 29.8 minutes)
    C Dale Davis (3.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.0 minutes)
Change in team outlook: 0.0 ppg, -1.7 rpg, and -0.0 apg.

    Golden State trades:
PG Derek Fisher (12.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.1 apg in 29.8 minutes)
    C Dale Davis (3.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.0 minutes)

    Golden State receives:
PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes)
PG Charlie Ward (5.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.1 apg in 25.7 minutes)
SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.2 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -0.0 ppg, +1.7 rpg, and 0.0 apg.

Fisher's contract runs for 6 years, IIRC. If we do this, it will prolong our contract misery 4 years longer than it would have under MoT's contract (Spoon's contract ends after next year).

That's the take of the give and take. The give is that we give away a bigger contract in the form of Mo Taylor's (at least for the next two years), than we take back in the form of Fisher's. As such, we cut $10 million off our payroll next year (Davis's deal expires this summer), allowing us room under the luxury tax threshold to sign a MLE player this summer, or a sign and trade player with the TE. Plus PG is more of a position of need.

What kills a team in term of its cap flexibility is NOT the size of their contract, but the length of it. Six year is a long time, and the 15% annual increase will have Fisher's contract cripple us for three to four years. We are simply prolonging our problem by trading MoT for Fisher, not solving it. To solve it, we either trade MoT for expiring contracts, or just let his contract expire. When his contract is up, Yao's max contract will kick in and we might still have a little cap space left for some moves.

BTW, this is a realGM trade you made up. There's no need to talk about it much more, if there was need at all to begin with.

Do you remember the choking incident, and who our coach is?

The choking incident was with PJ Carlisemo (now in San Antonio), not JVG.

If you really looked at the trade proposal, Sprewell is a salary dump after this year. We will have greater flexibility at the expense of two very marginal players. We get in on the Kidd to Minnesota deal and help balance some of the salaries.

I doubt the Rockets make a deal before the deadline. We just don't any good pieces to deal with. I would still like to deal MoT but we'll see.

I think he was suggesting that JVG has a similar style to Carlissimo (sp?), not necessarily that Spree choked JVG.

That is NOT entirely true about this being just a Realgm trade. In fact,Dale Davis is on the block and can be had for the right price.JBC was speculating what that price might be.In fact the Rockets were in the bidding for Fisher's services,so I don't think this is a stretch at all. That said,I don't know about taking on Fisher..Let's just throw that out and deal Taylor,Gaines, plus our #1 for Davis and his expiring contract. Then if they won't take that we move to possibly including Fisher...maybe.

By all accounts JVG and Spree worked well. Now, Spree to Rox? Wolves not doing it, nor are Rox.

I don't see how it would be in our best interest to make a trade right now.

    point guard
We are set with Sura. Ward and Strickland can get the job done as backups come playoff time. Why would we want anyone like a DA who Rose who would take time away from Sura?

    shooting guard
Wesley and Barry are perfect for this team. The hustle on defense and on the boards. Are smart, smart players. And they both can consistently make the open jumper. Great passers. They run the break. Unless we could get a Redd type player... there is no one out there on the block that I would take and mix up this pair.

    small forward
Sure... we could upgrade Bowen... but how often does he play?

    power forward
I am really liking the Howard and Padgett combination. Anyone we add if we traded Taylor would be taking time away from these guys. What is the point. Keep Taylor and bring him off the bench for instant post offense like we did last year.

    center
    We are set.

Why mess up a good thing?

What we are having is good, but do you think that we can win the chapionship with this team? I don't think Wesley and Howard can take us there as a starter. But I could be wrong

We are one injury away from not having a point guard.

I agree we probably shouldn't trade anyone that's in the rotation. But I'd consider any trade that involved someone not in the current rotation, particularly if they're getting paid $9 Million and doing nothing but eating twinkies.

No joke, if i'm an NBA GM right now I am on the phone calling Utah about Andrei Kirilenko.

If Utah is this willing to give up on all their players this early, it's worth a try. They gave away Arroyo for nothing, they gave away Boozer for a bunch of SF's they certainly don't need and a washed up, terrible center. Who is to say in this hardcore rebuilding mode they are in, they won't be willing to screw up again?

    GO FOR IT!!!!:)
