with the FIBA tournaments comin' up, i hope we can nab a good true PG or even a Euro veteran C that can shoot and pass...
Agree - I'm not sure he values the point guard position as much as the others. Seems like he's been able to snag adequate point guards with little to no effort. AB, Lowry, Dragic, Bev. Lin was his only big signing and i personally think if Harden had been on the roster he may have passed on that deal.
Right now the lineup looks like this : PG : Bev, Nick Johnson SG : Harden, Thornton, KJ SF : Ariza, Brewer, Dekker PF : Dmo, TJ, Harrell C : Dwight, Capela above 13 guys are locks to make the final 15 men roster. Ideally, a 3rd PG is a must for this team, for that, I expect the option will be : Terry vs trade from Papa and Prig contract vs surprising training camp min guy with good performance and for the last spot, the 15th men of the roster, it really comes down to : Dorsey VS Alan Williams VS any good surprise training camp invites So, in short, 1. I see Papa and Prig has zero chance to play in the Rox team next season. 2. I see Dorsey will have a chance to battle with Williams in the training camp and lose his job or even both will be out because of a training camp surprise.
There is no rush for the Rockets to sign a 38 yrs old PG in the coming season when there is no competition out there for a min contract. He is not our first priority and he was not expected to be better than a third stringer here next year.
There was a lot of great stuff in your post, but I've never seen anybody misspell so many Rocket's names. So I went ahead and corrected it for you.
The Rox has 3.4 mils till reach the tax line, there is zero chance for the Rox to keep Kpap so that Les will need to pay tax for a total scrub. Its an easy choice for Morey to decide if we keep guys like Kpap and Prig vs a guy like Williams or good training camp guy who will make min only.
I'm still not crazy about the Thornton signing. It just seemed unnecessary to me. That spot could have been used for that ever so elusive PG.
Thornton was a very good signing. He is a JR Smith type of player (in a good way). Good shooter, streaky, but can hit some big shots. Kind of the opposite that KJ can bring at the SG position.
I dont know about having too many PF's .... DMo , Jones & Harrell. Most think Jones will be used in a trade for a point but if you do that it leaves you with only DMO & Harrell. I dont think you can trade Jones knowing that .... unless you get a PF along with that PG or thru FA on the cheap that can contribute significant minutes. Is anyone really comfortable going with just DMo & Harrell at the 4 spot ?! I'd also hate to see Capela go in a deal for a point .... but he's somewhat expendable as long as DMo is on the roster since he can be the primary backup to Dwert assuming you retain or replace Jones. Hell , I don't want to see them move any of the big men on the roster outside of Dorsey.
with what money? there isn't a point guard taking a vet minimum that's worth anything. not that would've given us real value.
