I agree with batkins on Wells being the 6th ma.n I think a rotation like this would work: C - Yao, Hayes, Mutombo, Howard PF - Battier, Novak, Howard, Hayes SF - McGrady, Wells, Battier, Snyder, Novak SG - Snyder, Wells, Head, McGrady, Spanoulis PG - Alston, Head, Lucas III, Spanoulis Of course, most of the guys at the very end would see very minutes. I don't expect Lucas III or Spanoulis to be in the regular rotation, unelss they really show some improvement. I think Alston, Snyder, McGrady, Battier, Yao, Head, and Wells will be the regular rotation players. Novak and Howard will split time at backup four depending on the matchup, and same with Hayes and Mutombo at center.
Nice thinking! But I doubt if JVG will play with Battier at the PF position ... I think Howard will be starting PF and Battier starting SF until Thanksgiving, after than he will play with Battier at PF and Snyder/Wells at SG! Let 's hope it, dude!
I agree, I think Bonzi can come in around 4-3mins left in the first and play all the way until probably the same mark for the 2nd quarter. This will give TMAC, BATTIER some needed rest to finish strong and we could have Snyder play more in the 3rd so we can have Bonzi finishing the game. And have a lineup of Alston, Bonzi, TMAC, Battier and Yao for most of the 4th quarter.
Last year we were having trouble constructing a 7 man strong team this season, its so much better flexibility means that if we need outside shooting, we can play novak, otherwise he can sit on the bench if we want pesky defender at PG, we use Vspan (later in the season if he develops well) if not, he can sit on the bench as well i think Kirk will start, with bonzi coming off the bench (this is if and only if bonzi can accept this)
Besides tracy and yao, i dont wanna see anyone being put on a pedestel. everyminute should be fair game. anyone he trains hard and does the little things well should get the minutes. it really is a Tremendous position our ball club is in Alston 30 Minutes/ kill bill 15 minutes/JL 3 Minutes Wells 32 Minutes/Head24 minutes Tracy 34 minutes/Snyder 14 Minutes Battier28 Minutes/howard 20 minutes Yao 34 Minutes/deke14 minutes
This has been said before.. many times.. but V-Span is far from ready I just saw the Hawks preseason game.. and he was OUT of control. Also JL3 he had a couple easy turnovers, basically handing the ball over to the bad guys. I hope Head is picking up strides in that backup PG spot
Yes, VSPAn is a little out of control but it is only his second nba preseason game. I still see him ahead of JLIII so just because of that he should get some minutes. when he is in the game you dont neccessarily have to have him handle the ball. They could have tmac play pointforward while VSPAN is in there for purely denfense if nothing else. I think KillBill has a ton of potential and he will settle down before the AllStar break if not right afterwards.
Iono.. his defense, although fierce, still worries me. The refs loves to call the reach-in fouls, an easy call for them. V-Span does a whole lot of that. I think his aggressiveness will get him into a quick foul trouble. I think he has that advantage over JL3 because he's bigger, taller, and just as fast.. but shooting those bricks won't help his cause ^_^ Btw, is it just me or does V-Span look like a bad guy? I think I would hate him had he not been in a Rockets uniform. Iono, he just looks like a villain and an easy to hate guy.. maybe it's his constant 5 o'clock shadow.
Oh jesuse you're right. ok half Howards 20 minutes and give 10 to hayes. if it were upto me i would give 90% of howards minutes to hayes.
No way JH is starting at PF. He has been lucky to get off the bench so far in the preseason. He has a better chance of getting minutes at the backup Center, then starting PF.
I saw the same game and VSpan is not out of control. VSpan needs pt with the starting unit not the guys that were out there with him. This guy is making some nice passes where his team mates don't shoot the ball when they are open or the fumble the pass. Yes, VSpan needs to control his temp and stop rushing but I don't think he is that out of control He will adjust.
i agree, I dont think Van Gundy is that stupid. He obviosly has more talent on this roster than last year's. He always had JHow as a starter by default becasue we really had no other PFs. This year, we have battier, and chuck hayes is now a proven rebounder. it would be stupid to start howard and play him big minutes because it would be taking away minutes from more valuable contributers like Bonzi or Snyer. We need to be a faster and Juwan just slows us down and hurts us defensively.
Yes, I really don't see Howard starting this season until the injuries roll in. JVG has said that he wants an outside shooter at the four, and thus far in preseason he has started Battier and Novak at that spot.
I think it's pretty clear that Howard is working on not being the odd man out. Forget starting. Battier is going to start at PF. The only question in my mind is if Snyder or Wells will start.
No kidding man. This is going to be one LONG couple of weeks.. But to the subject at hand: 19 players, 15 spots, max. Gone: Sura, Bowen, Azubuike, and, I believe, Jacobsen. (Or maybe Haryasz, but I think JVG wants as many big men in the fold, if, for no other reason, than to have another big for practicing against. I also see more developmental potential in Haryasz than in CJ). That's 15. The more interesting battle is going to be for who ends up as the 3 inactives, for the most part. It is nice that those guys can all be rotated in and out on a daily basis, so I suspect that all 15 will see floor time this year. That said, the 3 guys who are most likely to land into those bottom 3 spots are: V-Span, JL3, and Haryasz. Depending on matchups, JVG could easily decide, on a game-by-game basis, to sit Novak or Padgett, and bring in JL3 or Haryasz. V-Span will spand this year on the bench, learning some control and getting a handle on the speed of the NBA. Anyone expecting him to make significant contributions this season is going to be disappointed.
Anyone else looking at these recent Rockets pratice photos from Sina.com and noticed the jersey colors? I noticed that guys like Azubuike, Novak, Bonzi, Dikembe are wearing black while Yao, McGrady, Battier, Alston, and Hayes are wearing white (or rather light grey). Could these guys be the starting 5, at least for the Dallas game tomorrow?
I'm sure Novak, and Synder will get plenty of minutes. One can shoot the lights out, the other is a big, and athletic wing man. It'll be interesting to see who plays backup point though, and how vspan is used.
