The official release from the Rockets: Rockets Sign First-Round Selection Aaron Brooks HOUSTON – Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed first-round draft pick Aaron Brooks to a multi-year contract. The Rockets selected the Oregon guard with the 26th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Brooks will participate with the team’s entry in the NBA Summer League which is scheduled to begin play on Tuesday, July 10 in Las Vegas, NV. Brooks (6-0, 160, Oregon) averaged 13.1 points and 4.1 assists in 115 games (110 starts) during his four-year career at the University of Oregon. Overall, he finished his collegiate career as Oregon’s ninth all-time leading scorer with 1,511 points, while ranking fourth in assists (471), fourth in 3-point field goals made (205), fifth in free throw percentage (.834) and sixth in steals (127). Brooks earned Second-Team All-America honors from The Sporting News and Third-Team accolades from The Associated Press as a senior. A member of the Wooden Award All-American Team, Brooks was also named First-Team All-Pac-10 in his final campaign. In 2006-07, Brooks led the Pac-10 in scoring (17.7) and ranked fifth in assists (4.3). He also recorded a game-high 27 points vs. Florida in the St. Louis Regional Finals of the NCAA Tournament. Brooks added Honorable Mention All-Conference honors as a sophomore and earned Pac-10 All-Freshman recognition.
Good signing. I think he'll have better handles than Luther Head cause Head cannot dribble if his life depended on it.
As a Pac-10 guy, I have to say that Brooks is a tough dude, physically and mentally, which is good to the rox. It was fun seeing the Ducks play with him taking the big shots. I believe he's fast enough and handles the ball well, and shoots at a decent percentage, however, the one knock on his is that he's not that good a point guard, in terms of sharing the ball, he's like a poor men's Iverson without his passing skills and court vision. I believe he's gonna be an upgrade to JLIII, but how much of an upgrade is still in the air. Hopefully summer league play will tell
If he can get to the rim and finish with any sort of consistency then he will see some playing time early and often.
I think John Lucas III will improve his shooting over the summer and be an upgrade over last years version of JLIII.
brooks is 10x the ball handler luther is. we better trade luther and rafer i cant stand to watch luther dribbling or rafer shooting.
jliii is meant to be quite tradeable. rockets need to start stockpiling future picks... ricky rubio isn't too far away
he's grown an inch since he was drafted, by the time the season starts he's going to be seven feet tall!! T\^/!N T0\^/3R5 FTW!!!
