The Rockets have released backup forward Justin Reed who was acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Juwan Howard trade. He was arrested for possession of mar1juana last week and that was the main reason for his release. The Rockets won’t miss him much as he was just going to come off of the bench for them.

Edit: Haven't seen anything "official" but thought I would share the rumor.

Drug charge dropped against Justin Reed

    By Kathleen Baydala
    kbaydala@clarionledger.com

A misdemeanor drug possession charge against Houston Rockets forward Justin Reed was dropped today.

Narcotics officers with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department arrested Reed on the night of Sept. 4 outside a house on Chennault Avenue. Two others, Torey Ross and Christopher Barber, were also arrested.

Sheriff Malcolm McMillin said Reed was cleared because “there were affidavits signed by the others arrested that it was their dope.”

Reed’s attorney, Dale Danks Jr., said Ross and Barber were classmates of Reed from Provine High School.

“(Reed) was in town visiting with old high school buddies. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Danks said. “Justin does not use mar1juana. He does not use drugs.”

According to his lawyer, Reed underwent random drug testing while he played for Ole Miss and at least 16 times during his four years in the NBA.

“He has never, to our knowledge, tested positive. We had a drug test administered after the arrest, and he did not test positive,” Danks said. “I have to compliment the sheriff, frankly, for dismissing the charges.”

Not surprised... I don't think anybody actually expected him to make our roster. Who's next? Does anybody think we're just gonna release Sura?

He had been working out everyday at TC and has some potential. Also, was a good locker room guy and seemed to know the game well. But he still really had no chance of making the team.

This guy at another message board I frequent said that Reed has actually become really good friends with Tony Parker and that he's probably going to join the Spurs to win a championship.

See, it turns out that Reed was actually much better than any other forward at the Rockets' summer workouts. Morey promised him 32 mpg of playing time but I guess Adelman told him, "My wife insists that I force you to ride the bench." He's a weird guy, Adelman.

Okay, so how many more actual contracts do we have to get rid of to pare it down to 15?

    1. Yao Ming
    2. Tracy McGrady
    3. Steve Francis
    4. Shane Battier
    5. Luis Scola
    6. Chuck Hayes
    7. Mike James
    8. Bonzi Wells
    9. Luther Head
    10. Aaron Brooks
    11. Kirk Snyder
    12. Jackie Butler
    13. Steve Novak
    14. Dikembe Mutombo (presumably)
    15. Rafer Alston *
    16. John Lucas III *
    17. Bob Sura *

    * - Candidates for deletion

By my count, we just need to move JL3 and Sura's contract for a pick and a TE. Landry and Harris aren't guaranteed anything, so they probably won't make it this year unless Rafer can be traded pretty soon.

how much that suck that reed was released for his drug charge and then have the drug charge against him dropped?

didnt think he would make the teams final roster anyway, at least it clears up a spot

Don't forget Morey is fat and blind and Adelman runs things around here! :D

Some people say JVG ruined Billy in his one and only NBA season what if JVG ruined the Rockets in his tenure as our coach. Wait a minute he did!
