He never sucked, he was a rookie, only people who fail to realize that suck.

He is under contract Sammy, if he decides to try the NBA again, I am certain NBA teams will give him a good look.

He struggled here for sure, but tons of players struggle their rookie years, especially those adapting to a new style and culture....

VSpan would have come around, it would have just taken time....

Seems like we will be a running team in 2009, Wafer would fit right in and is cheap. Les is already saving a ton of money from the insurance on Tracy and Yao (I think?).

Sign him to a one year deal at ML money imo and let him chuck imo.

If he is signed for 2 more years, the Rockets then control his bird rights......and as an asset it is a better position to be in....

I think they sign him for 2 years at 2-3 million and then the 3rd year at either a player or team option....Team is better, but Von may want a player option.

DD, the Rockets would get his Early Bird rights even after one more year. Wafer ain't making over the MLE next summer in free agency. Given the Rockets' need for cap flexibility next summer, I could possibly see a one-year deal at a "more appropriate" salary for Von. Either that, or a two-year deal (player option on Year 2) at a smaller salary.

Other teams aren't offering him more than the minimum and he'd be BYC if he got slightly under $1M.

So he was willing to take the min from another team but not the Rockets? Say NO to Von!

Wafer has been on 3 other teams and didnt contribute at all. Houston is by far the best situation for him. I dont see why he would want to go anywhere else.

Nobody is going to offer him big money.

its not as easy as that, if wafer wants more then Houston cant force him to sign just a one year..especially if he gets a longer offer elsewhere

Morey desperately needs to get this deal done. Wafer averaged nearly 10 points/game in less than 20 minutes of playing time. He has a questionable handle, and he plays with a score-first mentality, but the guy can knock down the three and he's explosive around the rim.

I'd start Wafer at the 2 guard next season. Shane Battier is approaching the back-end of his career, and we need to ship him while he still has value. Battier plays well with Yao because he's a spot up shooter, but he can't create his own shot. He shoots the corner three, and that's about all he contributes on offense. Plus, Shane doesn't tend to run up and down the court and get easy buckets in transition. Battier's going to suffer in our system next year, so we need to trade him this offseason for young talent or a big-man.

In the Portland series, Wafer played close to 20 minutes in every game, and he scored in double figures twice, including a 21 point outburst. In Game 4 (which Houston won 89-88), he went 3-3 from the three-point line and had three dimes. When Wafer's focused, and playing with fire and passion, he's one of the most effective players on the floor for the Rockets. In the LAL series, Adelman played him under 10 minutes in four of the games, and Wafer got frustrated and ended up blowing a fuse. Adelman's a "player's coach" so I think they can work through their differences. Maybe Adelman is opposed to re-signing Von, which would explain Morey's reluctance to go after him really hard.

    I just got a Twitter....

YahooSportsNBA Dahntay Johes has agreed to a 4 year, $11 million deal with the Indiana Pacers, his agent told Yahoo! Sports.

This is the kind of offer that Von could get but its pushing it....i'd say 3 years 7 or 8 million.
