brent barry is a bit more athletic than Kyle, even in his mid 30s. This guy could dunk....when he was younger. I think he is exactly what this team needs...a hard veteran who is unselfish and can hit some shots. He doesn't have to be a superstar or nothing. But drawing up old memories, if he could have came along a few years later....he could've had three good dunkers coming off the bench....Greene, Landry, and Barry.
Well I was just referring to the size of the impact that he will have, not him being small or anything haha. Im sure he isn't coming here to dunk
Morey did another good job. I feel VERY excited about the trade. Brent will be undoubtedly a perfect addition to this team! SPLASH!
But his shooting percentage is intact, and teams give us more open looks from long-range by design than any good team in the NBA. We've been so beaten up by Utah the last two years I find it hard to argue that a 43% shooter could not make a difference in those series. leebigez I've been reading your posts lately and I believe you'll have most of what you want by the trade deadline, but we're going to probably have to wait.
I like this signing. For that price, you will not get a better player through free agency in 2008. Brent Barry is a very smart player, can shoot the 3 at a very high percentage, a great passer, is a long 6'7, and can run the point at times, and maybe most importantly we have somebody other than Tmac and Rafer who can give Yao a post entry pass. Plus he will space out the floor in the Rockets half court offense with his 3 point shooting. Although he isn't the same player who won the dunk contest many years ago or a go to scorer off the bench like Maggette, this is a quality signing. When the Rockets are healthy, with Yao and Tmac both playing, we don't need a bunch of scorers around them, we need defenders (Battier, Dorsey, Hayes Mutombo), shooters, (Barry, Novak, Head, Battier), quality power forwards (Scola and Landry), and a playmaking point guards (Alston), and a veteran point guard (Jackson). Brooks is also good for a change of pace every once in awhile. Greene will provide some athletecism on the wings when needed. This team right now has the pieces to contend for a championship. But as always the question is health, if we are healthy, then we can beat anybody.
More than you can say for Head Well to be fair, last season he shot 49% from the field and 46% from 3 point land in the playoffs, so it wasn't like he was bricking every shot; when he played more than 20 minutes during the playoffs he averaged 11.3 PPG
It's amazing how easily subdued Rockets fans can be with a signing of an old player. Last year it was Francis this year it is Barry. Last year it was Bonzi coming back and this year its let's sign Landry (who didn't due too well after his knee injury last year). Unless we make a Garnett/ Allen type deal the Rockets are not going to the finals. WE NEED A CONSISTENT 3RD SCORING OPTION. A guy who can step up when/ if McGrady/ Yao gets hurt. I'm not holding my breath. Wake me up when the Rockets get to the trade deadline. If they haven't made a deal by then...well...can you say 1st round maybe 2nd round and done? The Rockets have lowered the fans expectations down so low that if they make it out of the 1st round, we will all claim victory, hollow as it is.
like this move will not hurt the team in anyway and will only help the team. Barry is a smart, great shooter and can still handle the rock and make plays in the minutes he will see on the team. granted he isnt going to be dunking over people like he did in his prime but he still has enough athleticism left in him to make a contribution off the bench. and the price is very very good too.
I see very few here thinking that brent barry puts this team over the top, but he is a quality acquisition that improves the team. You are acting like the offseason ends today, it doesn't. Believe it or not, you can be happy with this signing while still hoping for more to be done later this summer/season.
