Of course,It would be ideal to have that Prototype player at every position. But that's very hard to do just for about any team. Just about every team has a glaring weakness.Even championship teams from the past haven't all the Protype players at each position. The 95 Rockets didn't have a true PF when they traded Thorpe. The Bulls and Lakers got by w/Ron Harper at the Point. If a teams' dominant players dominate, role players play their role to a Tee and the team has great chemistry, a team can be a great team. A team that maxamizes it's strengths can over come it's weaknesses. I think a healthy Rockets can do that. If Yao and Tracy play the way they normally play, and our role players play their role, as I expect them to, we'll be fine. Another thing that can't be overlooked about the Rockets,is that they have a very good defense, which can carry us when the offense isn't clicking.
Now if we could just package Head, Hayes, Jackson and Francis in a trade to get a significant player in the rotation. That would make us all that much better.
a BUNCH of teams wanted PJ. obviously a retired player isn't your "main target" but even well before he signed with Boston he was pursued by a number of teams.
Brooksball, no he wouldn't. For all intensive purposes, Tracy is the pg, but rafer is a non shooting, shooting guard. Sasha is 24, 6'7 and can shoot the lights out. He gives the team flexibility because the team can bring in Brooks and slide him over to run off screens and picks. Brooks could also be used as drive and kick along with tracy to a guy like sasha. I actually think with a guy like tracy, sasha is really the type of pg/sg they need.
intents and purposes...while McGrady handles more PG duties than the average wing, Alston still does more. Head would look a lot better as a PG if McGrady did all or even most of the PG duties.
ibm: just my opinion. nj's goin nowhere this year. they've jettisoned kidd & rj already. thorn already considered carter for wallyworld. the tmac/vc reunion makes great sense to me because you can pair them at 2/3, market the hell out of them, and get him for our expirings. leebigez: I like those moves a lot. wilcox, then sasha w/the mle is better than landry, imo. then incorporate grabbing vince carter midseason. suddenly we are: sasha/brooks tmac/barry vince/battier/greene scola/wilcox yao/dorsey that's a very versatile and dangerous lineup.
Okay, maybe I'm getting this wrong. But i thought Novak was supposed to be Brent Barry. Thank you Darryl for signing a 36 old version of Novak. Barry plays no D whatsoever. Sounds like Novak to me. Definitely not getting us any better.
I like this signing as we need a good shooter to come off the bench...Will he start, hope not, but given our history he may get his chance...
Are you joking? Novak is a better shooter, but Barry can pass, drive and shoot, he is a very smart player. You are correct in that neither play good defense... DD
If Novak is 60% close to Barry, then I would be very happy. At 36, Barry would be still quick than Novak. Yes, Novak can shoot, but besides that he is northing like Barry. Barry can even play 1 sometimes, and Novak will never able to do that, of course he can play 4, but can guard nobody at this position.
ugh. have you watched brent play basketball? he is nothing like novak, except that he's efficient from long range, and not the best defensive player to grace the hardwood. but that said, i think brent is an excellent fit. and so will you, once you see him play in adelman's system. score, score, and score some more. i'm excited as hell.
DD, when novak actually gets on the court consistantly, for a whole season and shoots better than Barry, then, maybe then, you can say that Novak is a better shooter. I just don't understand your obsession with Novak, What is the deal?
I'm very happy with the Barry pick up. He'll be so much more important to the Rockets than he was to the Spurs, who really didn't need him. He comes in as the best 3 point shooter on the team. He'll probably get 25 to 30 minutes a night at the 1,2 and possibly some at the 3. He's a very good passer and a very good ball handler for his size. Obviously he's not as good as he used to be because of age but at around 25 minutes a night I think he an upgrade for the team.
He is 37 and he is NOT an all-star, just a good role-players. So his minutes should be limited to keep him effective throughout the season and well into the playoff. I say around 20 minutes a game is the max.
