cmon pple, a 3d pg with a streaky shot is a bargain at this price. he can play 60 games a season, its still a bargain.

Bev can bring it up the court, his ball handling isn't amazing but it isn't bad either. We also don't run it through Harden every time, when he sits you have Dwight or JSmith handling the ball. When he plays though, you want Harden handling the ball because he is the team's best playmaker, it's like when you have MJ you want him with the ball most of the time.

For the playoffs unless you happen to be the Spurs or as stacked as GSW the offense will stagnate and it will be ugly. Once things get ugly you need guys like Trevor Ariza and Bev more than guys like Lawson who can create offense but provide no defense. And again we have both Lawson and JSmith to provide playmaking when Harden sits. Bev is important to the Rox as the guy covering for Harden on D, and his contract is gonna be a massive bargain compared to the salaries other players will have.

Though we, as of now, don't have this guy, I think we have enough good ball handlers and playmakers now (with Smoove back) to essentially bring the collective effect of another playmaker. If chemistry continues to improve, we will perhaps even be better than having an obvious secondary ball handler (like we expected ty to be). Defenses will have to respect multiple threats.
You've got Smith freelancing from time to time, Lawson, with improved confidence and aggressiveness, a dynamic scorer in Thornton who can at least get his own shot, and a set of decently reliable 3pt shooters (please let me not jinx this) in Terry, Beverley, and Ariza.
Smith's return has re-amped the energy. Howard will hopefully come back and never again be ignored on offense due to Smith's presence.
3 more things need to happen IMO, for us to really come together by playoff time:

    1. Dmo's return (proceeded by Tjones' trade)
    2. Develop energy consistency night in and night out (don't let Smith's return just be a honeymoon period)
    3. Cleaner basketball (less turnovers and very few defensive lapses, if ever)

All of these are atm achievable, except for #1
That all being said, we will continue be a high variance team that will be unpredictable as ever. We could just as easily return to WCF or crash and burn in the 1st round. We have definitely developed some bad habits over the first half of the season and they will likely reappear at times in the playoffs. But, this team has an incredible ability to rebound, so i'm counting on that

Isn't it so cool that Morey and scouts pulled this guy out of their ass? Surprised Miami didn't see anything, or that he didn't perform up to standards on the Heat.

He's an undersized shooting guard that has limited handles, limited scoring ability and a mediocre shooter. He only defends the opposing PG. Beverly functions here much, much better than he would in most places because Harden handles the actual PG duties.

In most places Beverly is likely a 10-15 MPG energy guy off the bench at best. He actually functions as a capable starter here. I'm fine with him starting next to Harden, we need scoring punch off the bench at PG when Harden isn't in the game. When Beverly and Howard are healthy the last few years, the Rockets typically play very good defense.
