Just think, the "Kiss of Death" could be a Rockets pre-game stretching exercise. I support this move. I love Elie - we definitely need somebody like that on this team when we arrive at the high ground.
I think some of you are vastly overrating Marshall. He was great next to Karl Malone, but other than that he's pretty lousy. I've always seen him as a pretty lazy player. Poor defender too - too small to guard 4's, too slow to guard 3's. This guy definitely is not a fix. RealGM has him listed as being in the last year of his deal. If we could unload Howard or Taylor for him, it'd be a good deal simply for purposing of taking out the garbage, not for anything he would bring to the court. If they burn a draft pick or the trade exception on him, I'll be thoroughly pissed.
If you rate Donyell, you'd have to take him in context of the team he's playing for. On the Rockets, he'd be just what we need: 22-ish minutes per game, shooting the 3 pointer. Apparently we tried to swap Mo for Croshere this summer; didn't go through. Why would we want Croshere? His 3 point shooting, to open the floor. I recently dreamcasted a trade that would net us Marshall, Alston, Rose, and Loren Wood(s?) for Deke, Boki, Weatherspoon, Taylor, JJ; something like that. Yes, we think the Raptors involved are cancers, but I would beg to differ. Bad situations breed discontent. We'd get a real SF (albeit overpriced), the type of 4 we need, a real point guard (if a poor man's Francis, who doesn't turn it over as much), and a good backup center. Since Marshall is the only name mentioned in what is no more than a rumor, I'll relax. Let's see if anything happens. We can't stand pat.
I think the real question is how much do we have to give up to get rid of Mo. The guy actually makes our team worse 80% of the time he plays - and not just this year. He's in his own world - can you imagine the Pistons winning a championship with him playing 25 minutes a game for them? No way. I'm sure the Rockets looked into buying out his contract like they did with Matt Maloney.
Donyell Marshall is too old. The Rockets need a young, spry power forward if they want to take a roster spot away from a player. The Rockets have 4 freaking power forwards on the roster now.
The best thing the Rox can do is wait tell next season and try to land Swift! I wish we can get him!!!!
who doesn't want a young athletic pf. unfortunately aside from tmac and yao, we won't have enough to offer to land a young athletic pf. that's why we're in talks to get a guy like donyell marshall and not stromile swift. regarding marshall, he is a good player but not great. he could be a good fit here since he doesn't have to be a main option. he's a pretty good rebounder and shotblocker and can score pretty easily too. the main question is.... will he be an improvement over our current pfs? i think so.
I imagine they're going for Nene or Donyell but not both. The entire reason Nene doesn't want to play in Denver anymore and Denver doesn't want him is because he's thrown a fit since being moved to the bench. He wants to be a starter. Here, you suggest he plays back up center for us, so not only would he be playing off our bench but he'd be playing out of position. I know he plays some center minutes, but he's clearly a power forward. I'd love to see Marshall or Nene on the roster. I'd love to have them both if one of them isn't opposed to coming off the bench. I'm not nearly so excited about the prospect of Jalen Rose, but at this point, I don't object to it as strongly as I ordinarily would either. Especially if it means getting rid of Mo Taylor. You know, I know Mutumbo is old and at best would be with us maybe another season before he retires, but damned if I still won't hate to see him go. (if, in fact, he does get traded)
Stromile Swift will be cost prohibitive. Stromile will ask for more than full MLE. Stromile saw average players like Brian Cardinal get full MLE. Stromile is better than Cardinal.
i think he will not only be a fix, but become a fixture. ive watched him play from back in the jazz days. i've followed his stats. he would be a great addition. for those who doubt it. this is the last year of his contract. so if we get rid of mo or any of our current 4's in this deal, just think of it as unloading them.
I'd put in Nene immediately as the starting PF similar to the role Cato played last year. Juwan and Mo aren't doing squat on offense anyway. I think the Sonics may pursue Dikembe since they really don't have a strong low post defensive presence. Dikembe is hardly playing any minutes. He could easily put up some good minutes on a playoff team. I'd like to get Vladimir Radmanovic in return if possible.
I know this isn't going to mean ****, but Chad Ford has other ideas for Marshall: Insider: STEP 3: Trade Donyell Marshall Marshall is the one guy on the Raptors that teams actually want. Not only can he be productive in the post, but his salary is reasonable ($5 million this year), and he's in the last year of his contract. If the Raptors are going to start rebuilding with young players, now is the chance for them to give up Marshall (who plays the same position as Chris Bosh) to try out a few younger guys. Marshall to the Heat for Dorell Wright, Malik Allen and Wesley Person The Heat are looking for a versatile, consistent low-post scorer and rebounder, and Marshall fits the bill. They would have to give up a young talent like Wright to make it happen, but given the Heat's championship's aspirations, that wouldn't be too much to ask. They could actually combine this trade with the Rose-for-Jones swap and really add some punch to their team. Allen and Person won't fit into the picture in Toronto, but Wright has been called a young Tracy McGrady by some scouts. Marshall to the Cavs for Dajuan Wagner and DeSagana Diop Donyell Marshall Forward Toronto Raptors Profile 2004-2005 SEASON STATISTICS GM PPG RPG APG FG% FT% 16 10.6 6.2 1.1 .419 .800 The Cavs are offering Wagner and Diop to teams for second-round draft picks, but if they could get a veteran like Marshall to help with the playoff drive – even better. Neither Wagner nor Diop have done anything so far, but in the right environment they might be worth a look. Wagner, the former No. 6 pick in the draft, can score. Diop is huge, if completely untalented. Again, for the Raptors it's about rebuilding and taking some trial runs with a few guys hoping they stick.
When was the last time you've seen him play? Because even with Carter essentially MIA this year, Rose has put up 30 points exactly one time in 23 games this year. 29 points once. On the flipside, he couldn't crack double-digits SEVEN TIMES. He's gone for 20 or more FIVE times. Think about that. Let it sink in. Add in the fact that he will make a frightning $15.7 next year and $16.9 after that. I can swear to you that Les wouldn't pay above the minimum for a FA until he's gone. Evan
