I didn't think the rockets could sign anyone until they got hakeem either signed or renounced. but I share your sentiments about dan fecal. ------------------ houston rockets = 2 utah jazz = 0
Thursday will see someone getting renounced, and multiple signings if I am correct. I may be wrong, but... the sh*t has been pretty thick lately, so who knows? ------------------

Free posts should only be taken advantage of by those who need them. Any way, I have an opinion...I think(hope)that they are going to announce a multiplayer sign and trade deal that includes DREAM and Cato! Don't want Hakeem to leave, DO want Cato to leave if his attitude won't change! ------------------ This is our FRANCHISE and these are the RULES - Learn it, Live it, Love it!
If Hakeem were staying, wouldn't it kinda leak out to the media that he was basically re-signing? No idea what this could be? ... If it's a sign and trade, enjoy Brian Skinner or Eric Montross... j/k [This message has been edited by Flutie (edited July 23, 2001).]
Thanks for the info. I am betting Dream is gone. S&T for Camby. I wouldnt mind that. Also wouldnt mind if he stayed. ------------------ Reporter asks "How close were you to the victim?" I got a response this morning from two places - one was from the Rockets and the other from a friend. Basically, according to the Rockets, there is nothing scheduled at this time, but they'll let us know if and when something is scheduled. In addition, there is some thought from my friend (he would know) that if anything is planned, it is likely being done from a PR angle. The "we want Dream but we also want to re-sign our own guys" kinda thing as protection in case he goes. Everything I've heard here recently points towards the likelihood that Olajuwon is gone one way or another. ------------------ Who's your buddy? Who's your pal? I am, aren't I?

A prediction: If Rudy and CD go before the cameras again and the same type of public "appeal for understanding" (my quotes)on the Hakeem Contract talks is presented ... well, that indicates to me that the Rockets are getting ready to take off the gloves, and maybe go in another direction. That they have reached an empasse...." I know there is nothing worse than quoting yourself ... but I wanted to re-emphasize that IMHO any press conference rehashing the same old "understanding" and trying to do "what is right" or maybe "we've gone as far as we can go" lines from CD will spell .... GOODBYE to Hakeem. Hakeem wants a Rocket contract that is consistent with others that have been presented, especially over the past, hurried ten days. He wants a public declaration by RT of his role as an important and primary cog in the grand schemes of this year's gameplan. He's not going to get either,I fear. This is looking more and more like a dying swan song. Cheers. ------------------
Thanx oeilpere. Just one question , Are the Rockets going to go for a sign and trade? Or will they use the money on some other players like Marc Jackson? How much do you think Mo will be signed for? ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
well maybe more than 1 question. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
I have said it before but let me repeat... In business or politcs, information leaks are part of the adversarial nature of negotiation. Both sides do it in an effort to influence public relations. The media is just the mouthpiece through which the game is played. My guess is that the Rockets have not made any firm decisions yet but know they have to set a deadline, they can not wait on Hakeem indefinitly. It should be fun to watch this week. ------------------ I find my own ignorance amusing
This isn't fun. It's agonizing. Come on Dream, you know where you belong. Sign here and get it over with. ------------------
1. You must remember that IF Hakeem goes he will choose where. In essence he controls whether it is a sign and trade or not. If it is Toronto who would we take - Keon Clark and Dell Curry? God I hope not. May be draft picks and trade eceptions inviolved. I would prefer some third party invokvement. Indiana would almost assuredly be a sign and trade with Perkins(hope not), McKey, Harrington(I like that) or Croshere (nice, although we could use him as great third party trade bait for someone - mmmmm, Denver???). New York IMHO would be useless unless we had a solid third party involved. I like Othella, Camby would be okay but I think I would rather trade him away to a third party to fill our five hole. He is not a five in the West. Any talk of Kurt Thomas would upset me. Hint: I wish Denver would get more vocal on acquiring Hakeem! 2. Marc jackson is not as big an improvement as some are suggestoing. Frankly, I think RT has committed himself to resign Hakeem and his second choice if anyone is LaFrentz. And LaFentz isn't even a Free Agent nor is he on the market anymore! That doesn't mean he can't be had ... just that a scenario of losing Hakeem may not automatically kick in a rush to acquire either Jackson or any other proifiled player. I think a move toward signing our FAs then a shopping trip that may be as mundane as Axel and Huffman. 3. I have no idea on MoTaylor. I would suspect they will sign him for $4.5 to 6 Million. It all depends on the Hakeem issue and how it is solved. I would suspect they have already suggested to him what the negotiation range will be and he has already agreed in principal. ------------------
Well ... I disagree in principal. 1. Hakeem would be a find for some teams, and most teams understand that the roster mix .... having enough varying talent at each position .... is sometimes more important than individual players talents. Indiana has NOTHING at the five. I mean ask ONeal if he likes playing the five all the time. Ask him if he would be happier with Hakeem playing that spot and him playing the four, then swiutching to start the five when needed. 2. Toronto would kill to get Hakeem. Vince would be very happy having a veteran center taking care of the middle with his talent and reputation, and a center that easilky passes in and out would add another 4-6 PPG on his stats. 3. NY is another team that needs a marquee center to balance it's team. Camby has been on the trade table for two years. They have run out of money and they have to sell some of mothers jewellery. A two year deal for Hakeem's services could be a way out. That obscene Witherspoon contract has pushed Camby even further out the door. But, I will agree with you that a "Hakeem to Wherever" trade will probably involve more than the players mentioned. We still have a bag of options if Hakeem is going somewhere else. (I still think if Hakeem goes, RT's focus will be on LaFrentz THIS YEAR, not next.) ------------------
(I still think if Hakeem goes, RT's focus will be on LaFrentz THIS YEAR, not next.) Wow! Is Lafrentz even available? And do we have anything that would even remotely interest Denver? That would be a great pickup, but I don't see how we could convince Denver to part with him via trade... ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Oeilpere, If that was all that we could get & those players weren't what the Rockets wanted, wouldn't it make more sense to just let Dream walk? Why use up cap space for players, if you don't really want them? Loyalty to Dream should not be an issue any longer, if he decides to leave. It then becomes all business & we should get only players that would help improve us. By the way, I really like the way you dream in that little room down on the farm. I'd have to rank then in this order as my favorites: (1)4 (2)2 (3)1 (4)3 ------------------ A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.
Pops, I just don't get why Denver is so unhappy w/ LaFrentz in the first place. Is there something that we, as Rocket fans, are missing - much like other team's fans have little idea what a waste of space Cato is? ------------------
