DD is definitely not middle class and Uchi isn't "That" expensive. Its a 70 dollar a person type of place unless you are a big drinker. The food and restaurant is more about presentation. The taste is is slightly above average but nothing amazing. The reason why Uchi is so hyped is because Austinites really don't have that many choices. Austinites think Kim Phung is good Vietnamese for god sake.

Actually for sushi, musashino my favorite spot. The asian food scene is pretty limited in Austin.

I love coming back to Austin or Houston so I can eat at all these "expensive" places and save money compared to eating in regular places here in LA.

 

I'm wondering if that's by design so they don't have to deal with the distractions.
