We can't rely on Yao Ming. I won't be bothered if we don't get a big name, but we need a true center plus better defense, and ball handing,passing/shooting. Some of our guys can certainly improve.

I agree but if the Rockets get Cousins or another big in the draft, Morey just set this team up to be real contenders, IMO, in a couple of years.

    Cousins
    Hill
    Ariza/Buddinger
    Martin
    Brooks

that almost spells out CHAMP!

I think that anyone who believes that this team as it's composed is ready to challenge for the championship is delusional. Yes the majority of our players are on the upswing of their career arcs. That does not mean our ceiling is that high. We didn't make the playoffs this year. Adding Yao will take us into the playoffs but not top 4 probably given the amount of minutes he can play. And then it's another big jump to go from "in the playoffs" to "western conference finals contenders" and then perhaps an even bigger one to get to "championship contender".

Teams like the Celtics or Lakers made two or three leaps in one offseason/trade, but the rest of the teams don't have that luxury. It takes a constant effort at improvement through roster changes to get to that level, unless you have a rising superstar waiting in the wings like OKC with Durant. Those fans who think the Rockets have those players in Brooks/Budinger/Hill are delusional.

I forgot where I heard it from, someone in the NFL maybe Parcells, but the saying goes "if you're not moving forward then you're falling behind". The reference was to making changes to the roster to try to get better. The same applies for any sport. Morey's here to do that. Our defense will not magically improve back to it's 2007-2009 levels if Yao comes back but the remainder of the starters are Brooks, Martin, Scola, and Ariza. Morey admitted himself that he's going to look to make changes if we can't get better defensively. So to close: no. Our players cannot just improve to get us where we want to go. We need to make moves also.

    No.

Without roster changes, this team would not even compete for the WC Finals. They'd be battling for 6-8th seed at best, and would not break the first round.

You can have Hakeem the Dream come and train all of them, and it would still be subpar.

We will, of course, always try to make moves, lots of moves. However, we have a good team already and should be very careful with how proceed.

No doubt. We are very close to being a true contending team. We just need that one last piece, I don't think it necessarily needs to be a super star. We will do our due diligence and court Bosh, James, and company and most likely fail. From there we should focus on backup C and more front court depth. I would prefer a big that is very adept at rebounding and defense first before offensive prowess. However, the Cousins rumor presents complicating circumstances.

Ariza and Lowry need to work on their jumpers. Big time.

And Andersen needs lessons from the Chuckwagon.
