To dismiss any stat because of the potential for improper interpretation makes it so that there's no point in bringing up any stat. I can say the same thing about points scored, rebounds, assists, any of the %s, team wins and losses, points scored, etc. etc. etc. Even all-encompassing stats like PER or ranking that accounts for SOS/Home-Road splits are still open to interpretation due to not covering everything. I don't think the OP or anyone else in this thread actually believes that Delfino is the most important or best Rockets player. But rather it's another view on the player.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that every stats has it's flaws. The problem is how people use them. Stats are just tools and you need to use the right tools to support your arguments. The problem is that some people don't understand this. With that said, unadjusted +/- is fundamentally useless at best and misleading more often than not. I don't want to go into the math/logic reasons why because it's long and involved and I don't know how to search my own posts where I could just copy and paste or link you. As someone said earlier (something I've been saying a lot myself) we can't have better stats until we have better game logs that shows hockey-passes, set plays, defensive schemes, more types of defensive contributions, etc. The data just isn't there and we can only go so far with the data that is being recorded now.
Not sure exactly what I am looking at, but I read Harden is our best offensive player and Asik our best defense player - passes the smell test. Looking around a bit, Spurs are a bad ass team, Love would be a great addition and Cousins worthwhile, but don't give up too much. Paul Milsap would be better. Nice link - thanks.
