No brainer here. If Les would have let Morey go he would have been picked up by another franchise. In morey I trust (Insert Morey courtside pic here)
At least till rebuilding is over, I know it's a bummer, I was hoping to bring in someone else and start the "FIRE NEW GUY" chants.
i, a proud fan of houston rockets, truly appreciate the work morey has done. i m patiently waiting for morey to build the championship contending team and win us multiple titles
I have to say Harden is better than I realized. Much better. Lin has great potential to work well with Harden. Asik is a beast. Want to keep Morey.
Then I hope it's gowanns to be Dwight Howard after all. I mean, hey, the guy can make up the contract difference (as opposed to re-upping with L.A.) with all that China money, right?
But him having us in the position to be able to pull off that harden deal has been his plan ever since Yao went down. Obviously many were too impatient to wait for something like that to happen, but that's what the pro morey guys were pleading for back then. Patience finally paid off.
Morey hasn't had a perfect track record but he's nearing the summit in terms of assembling his own team. We need to let him ride it out to the peak before we pass final judgment.
He's done a decent job, but he's also been given a longer time frame for some of his bigger moves, in my opinion. Other owners wouldn't be as patient. By far, his worst move has been hiring Kevin McHale. There are so many reasons...I can't even fit them all into a single post. (By the way, I am incredibly sympathetic for his family, and I don't doubt he is a good person, but as a coach, I am his biggest critic) I still shudder about Kevin allowing Luis and PatPat to be out on the court last year for defense during the final minutes, when you had Marcus Camby and Sam changing shots. I still don't understand how he did the same crap when we were going strong into the playoffs and was too stubborn to make an adjustment. Didn't we lose 6 games in a row? McHale is the biggest reason our guys didn't make the post-season last year. If you play with theory, we may have been more attractive for free agents if we had made a little noise in the post-season. Same thing with player relationships. Kyle wasn't fond of him, Dragic took a wee bit more money in PHX, but I figure he didn't believe in him. Also, and I know this first hand, when NeNe was the hottest free agent....we offered him more money than other teams, but after he talked to other players that knew/played for Kevin, part of his decision not to sign with us was our coach. BUT...I will give Morey credit for being ruthless and finding gems that are unpredictable. Who would have thought Chandler Parsons would become the best he is today? Also...Carlos Delfino? What a steal for a veteran shooter. Who would have thought stealing Omer from Chicago would result in us having a healthy, coachable, strong, driven center? Who would have thought we would only have to give up a disgruntled K-mart and an unproven rookie for an MVP candidate in James Harden? We are one legit PF and proven coach away from being championship contenders. And yes, I miss Rick and JVG at this point.
I think Morey was on the hot seat after last season. Would he have been re-upped without nabbing Harden?
I'll take this one at a time. As to hating McHale, it seems there are a lot of people who for whatever reason don't like him, though there aren't really any legitimate ones as far as I can tell. McHale is doing the job he was brought in to do, he's a rebuilding coach and the team is performing better than anyone expected so it's odd when people complain since things are going well. As to the player relationships, Lowry was a crybaby, he was upset that when he got hurt Dragic came in and outplayed him and he never earned his starting job back. I personally commend McHale for not putting up with prima donna BS like that. If you remember, Brooks lost his starting job for the same reason. As to Dragic, the ONLY reason he went to the Suns is for the 4th year on the deal, don't invent some other BS that isn't there just to fit in with your preconceived notions. I am REALLY REALLY REALLY glad that Adelman is gone, he would do nothing but harm to the team that the Rockets currently have.
