Would be funny if the leagues view of his value drops enough to where we end up matching whatever he ends up signing for.
You really have to feel awful for D-Mo here. Dude is basically being told that his career could be in jeopardy, and he can now kiss ALOT of money good bye this Summer. Good news for the Rockets is if the reports really are just precaution or he can seek out better doctors or can rehab better to fix his back long term, they can potentially get him back this Summer on a very good discount. My thought from before was that the deal was simply done because of D-Mo's pending free agency, and Detroit pursuit. Well I think its safe to say now that Detroit would not be that warmly received if they came back to D-Mo again this Summer, and whatever they saw medically has to be something that keeps them away anyways along with many other teams. Just really hoping D-Mo defies the odds here and proves the doctors wrong. Just a damn shame if this wraps up the book on his NBA career.
The best we can hope for is that the doctors evaluated him and realized the chances of him reinjuring his back are just high enough to make Detroit not want to give up the pick. If it lowers his price significantly then we have to consider matching and hope those doctors are wrong/ we get lucky.
Seems the issue is more about his long-term prognosis, rather than his condition today. I would assume he'll play until he can't. Rinse, repeat. Rinse, repeat.
Kevin Martin was fine after the trade fell through, I'm talking physically not emotionally. I'm more worried about Marcus and his affect on the chemistry than D-Mo to be honest. I think D-Mo knows this is a business and he loves Houston.
The Rockets will just hide him for the rest of the season just so nobody knows how good he is. DD  Seriously, now that this has fallen through, let's pray that DMo's back is really not that bad, and Detroit just got cold feet.
