Rockets open to trading John Wall for Russell Westbrook if incentivized

I couldn't disagree more.

"You have to take risks" sounds nice, but "you have to avoid giving $40M contracts to flawed players" is more true.

To paraphrase Morey once, you need to be the team that finds Chandler Parsons, not the team that pays Chandler Parsons.

 

We don't have a superstar or two in this team that's going to be paid max money. After John Wall expires next year, our cap is going to be filled with rookie contracts.

Taking risks like paying Chandler Parsons max money knowing damn well he isn't a superstar is a dumb decision if you have two max contracts on the payroll already. Rockets will have nothing and I don't have a problem taking on Simmons contract (swapping Westbrook for Wall's as well), since he is still a very good player despite his shortcomings.

We need an actual PG on this team. Are we going to find one in the draft or through free agency? KPJ is not the answer and I rather he be put at the 3 or in a sixth man role. I think putting a strong defender and good PG next to Green will really help out with his development these next few years.

Granted if Simmons comes out and says, I will not play for the Rockets, then yeah, don't trade for him, but since that hasn't happened, I think we should entertain the possibility of putting a package for Simmons as long as we don't give up much draft capital.

My proposal is based on getting rid of two players that are not going to be in our long term plans anyways and may not have the value that Clutchfans thinks, especially EG, no way he is going to shoot like this next year again or stay healthy. Granted, I am fine swapping them for FRPs as well since those are also valuable, but just putting options out there and Simmons does fill a huge need on this team.

 

Another trade, this one just to get some FRPs out of it.

Lakers end up with three shooters. Sixers end up with an FRP, young talent, EG who would be tremendous for them in a playoff run, and Wall who definitely has something left in the tank, just needs to play.

Rockets are there only to help the Lakers get rid of Westbrook and get FRPs back. Also get Danny Greens contract (TO next year) to facilitate the trade. Atlanta has been pursuing Simmons plus they get THT another good young guy to add to their mix.

Both Sixers/Hawks get to shed salaries they don't want in Gallanari and Harris. Lakers have limited options in getting rid of Westbrook and I'm sure James will prefer shooters on the team over staying put.

Lakers don't have anything the Rockets want for Sengun.

Their 1st round pick is 2027. It's good enough for Wall, but not for Sengun.
Remember Sengun is better than Jokic and Embiid; which is good for 6th place.

But Apache, it's about who is around them? Yes that can be said about any player.
Like even Jalen Green or Kevin Porter.

Hawks are getting totally hosed in this trade. Collins is a damn good forward and they don’t need Simmons. They are giving up two FRP’s and Collins for Simmons and an overpaid Tucker. Sixers wouldn’t do it anyway, because they don’t want wall and are mistakenly over valuing Simmons who has wrecked his trade value and can’t shoot even free throws.

 

Don't disagree, just putting some scenarios out there. Hawks are after Simmons and Collins is unhappy. It's not like Collins is an all star, just puts up good numbers at this point, so sometimes you gotta give up something to get something. Maybe they only give up one FRP.

Once again, just scenarios to show that it can be done, but it's hard to have multiteam deals with large salary exchanging.

Morey had zero problem paying for ALL STARS.

Morey hunted for All STARS every offseason.

By the time all is said and done, Sengun should be a a consensus top five player in this draft. Huge sleeper. And that's saying something, as this will likely be looked back upon as a historically great draft....best in many years.
