They are supposed to be trained for specific events like that. Shot 7 times at point blank range is ridiculous. Mind you with KIDS in the vehicle. What if one of the shots ricocheted and killed one or all of the kids. And there a thousands of times where a white person has resisted arrests and done worse things and didn’t end up getting shot 7 times and left paralyzed. And it never fails every time they want to bring up their criminal history. Nobody deserves to die at the hands of police even guilty parties or even 3 time felons or what have you. Unless they are in a shootout or in absolute life threatening event.
Given the last 4 years, it's probably more possible than ever to get a better deal "somewhere else" - unfortunately, Americans are currently banned from traveling abroad due to the malign incompetence of the Trump Regime resulting in the world's worst COVID19 epidemic so i guess you're stuck with your fellow Americans, a majority of whom may disagree with or even abhor you and your views
Let's say I agree with you. And let's say I can show you data, not random videos, but *data* that shows systematic disparities between how different groups are policed, tried and convicted in the criminal justice system. The data of how many African Americans die in police custody compared to the % of their population, or with other groups might be a start. And then, let's say I showed you disparities in other parts of society- economic status, home ownership, educational opportunities, federal government benefits and tax write offs, health resources and outcomes, life span and so on. There is no doubt that I could show real clear differences in the experience of being one group in American society versus another. And then we could dig into *why* these real clear differences exist. Are these differences inherent because of race? If you think they are, why should I continue to reach out to convince you in the manner you are asking? If we jump this hurdle of discussion, great. To spare conservative feelings, I could trace the experience of one group at the bottom of these comparisons backwards through the decades and not start with 1619 and the institution of slavery. I could lay out specific state and federal policies that limited not only voting, but uniform sentencing for criminal activity across different groups, educational resources to different communities, jobs and retraining, access to home ownership, federal loans and subsidies and even social security when it first started. We would see Jim Crow segregation laws big and small not just in the South but through many American communities going back to reconstruction. We would see how much federal resources- defense contracts, for example- that went in some communities and how other blue collar cities were left to decay. Notice I am leaving out the politics of racism, or the reality of terrorism against African American people through lynching and the history of organized pogroms and violence against their communities (Tulsa, for example). I am not even get into the cumulative racism in the pop culture of American society, or even the recent spate of videos showing African American people being murdered by police. I would just show you the *legal* mechanisms of discrimination that would help the mythical conservative I am trying to help understand why African Americans are protesting and angry about this moment in 2020. I wish I could have hope that if I laid out all of this evidence, I might begin to change someone's mind at this stage. I am dubious. It's not the data, it's not empirical evidence and it's not even seeing police brutality with our own eyes. If people- conservatives, or liberals- don't have simple, basic empathy for other people then what is the "real path to opening and changing minds," Finsraider?
Do you not know that officers have restraint training and a taser is only one way to restrain him. We don't even know if the taser malfunctioned or not.
lol. Probably not. And you shouldn’t view posts on a message board as a good representation of either conservative or liberal thought either. Or the words out of trumps mouth for that matter. if you want to understand the modern right, go to the middle and find out why so many who voted for Obama gave their vote to Trump in 2016. There was something like 9 million of them. That’s as good a place as any. there’s an anarchist named Michael Malice that wrote a book called “The New Right” that I believe addresses this.
This is good advice to everybody about almost everything. Same goes for conservatives talking to liberals.
Great points, and I'd be wrong to ignore them. Putting yourself in the cops shoes, life on the line, perp no t listening to commands, how would you react? That's a question none of us (unless you're a cop) can answer. That's why I need more facts. Body cams. More than just "black man shot by cop". That comment alone sets off riots and innocent deaths.
ok. Just accept the consequences of your decision to not negotiate and realize that conservatives will play to win, just like you will, and lots of bad things will happen in the process.
players don’t care...they’re doing what they feel is right if they focused on trying to appease people like u, it would be the same ol’ useless Twitter posts and BLM shirts
So why are the people you are surrounded by a good representation? I am in Texas so yeah I am surrounded by conservatives as well? I totally understand the modern right and its condescending that you think I don't and need to be lectured to. Once again why do we need to talk a conservatives, why did you make that distinction like we don't know how to have civil discussions and conservatives are the bastion of civility? Why would I ever read a book from an anarchist explaining The New Right?
The thing is that they're trained to believe their life is on the line when there is any tiny semblance of a threat. Meanwhile, a civilian can't get away with shooting someone until they can reasonably prove their life or property was in danger. This is America, where physically threatening a cop under almost any circumstance gets you life in prison at best, and no life underground at worst. No one wants to shoot cops, but cops are trained to believe everyone wants to shoot them. F*cking trained soldiers at war in hostile territory have stricter rules of engagement than our cops at home in suburban neighborhoods do... And by "stricter", I mean they exist. As for how I'd react? I don't know, but it's not relevant to the discussion. I'm not saying cops are individually bad people. I'm saying American LE f*cking SUCKS. They're inefficient, over-militarized, over-funded, have too little accountability, and are poorly trained. But yes, if they are too scared to do their job without killing the people they swore to protect, they should find another job, so you can count that among the reasons I'm not a cop. Also, those innocent deaths you're talking about are usually at the hands of either white militias or cops shooting the protesters... And ironically enough, those militias often claim to be pro-gun-rights libertarians who want to fight government oppression... Unless that oppression is against minorities, of course.
