You wouldn't guess it by the current tenor of the Republican party in this country. They are appealing to the lowest common denominator, race baiting, demonizing and mocking people of color, women, immigrants, children of immigrants, the disabled, etc. Not a good way to demonstrate "they need the left." (I wouldn't necessarily describe myself as "the left," but if wanting equal rights and equal justice is "leftist" than so be it.)
You personal sadness about NBA players not playing does not remotely compare to the larger issues they are protesting and responding to. I mean, you know this, right?
If the commissioner of the NBA was the sheriff of that WI town, I'd understand this protest. As it stands, I don't. But it's cool that they're all coming together for one cause. What I'd do is I would get the player with the hottest wife and go visit Trump and Trumpy bear, convince him to end qualified immunity. Selling points to Trump: you'll be loved not just by sycophants but by the entire world. And you (Trump) will show the leftist libras that you have all the power by ending qualified immunity . You alone can do it. I can't find any wives that remind me of Ivanka so the best list I can come up with is a couple of Miss universo competitors . Amelia Vega Viviana Ortiz And Klay Thompson's wife is pretty hot. This hail mary has a better chance of working than not playing the games tonight. Instead this strike will just get a sector of 'christian' politicians to spew the thrash they spew.
Good for them! I'll take any excuse to delay game 5 to allow Westbrook to get healthier and to break up some of OKC's momentum.
No that isn't what I meant. Alienate by definition means: to make someone feel isolated or estranged I think a lot of fans definitely feel that way, like okay so we are being punished for the crimes of others? Yes I am sure there are horrible, terrible people that are NBA fans (Boston has a team), but I think the majority of NBA fans are on board with the ideals and disagree with the way it's being executed. And yeah, there are plenty of people that watch sports to escape the political and social justice dogma that dominates our day to day lives now.
You do know that playing a professional basketball game and standing up for the rights of black americans, and humanity in general, is not mutually exclusive. I mean, you know this, right?
...and I totally support your right to say that, good sir. Agree to disagree shouldn't result in fights. Free speech is never a poor arguement though. Read some history. It's a powerful thing.
You are absolutely correct ! Don't anyone think for a moment that ticket sales, concessions, fan shops and TV money don't matter. That's laughable. TV searches for RATINGS...think this league sustains itself ? Gotta flash for you....money matters to owners, networks, certainly players. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
When did I say I was going to stop watching the Rockets or basketball? Stereotype much? Maybe you are part of the problem.
Well part of this problem is the duopoly of American politics. Still, you guys realize that pretty much every major city in America leans left, right? Including the very most prosperous and booming ones there are: San Francisco, Austin, LA, Seattle, Denver... They all lean heavily left (by US standards). Convenient to ignore their existence. So walking away, with your back to a crooked cop who has his gun trained on your body at point blank distance, is called "fighting the police" now? Good to know... Lulz, every fan will be back once the players are playing again. And these "enabled" players have mostly enabled rich white billionaires to become even richer. Regardless, the fact that they're willing to put their own paychecks on the line for this cause should tell you how important this is. I'm not totally sure I understand what you're saying, but yes, the democratic party is crooked, too. As I was getting at above, this is the problem with our two-party system and its illusion of choice.
If you are more angry that NBA players are exercising their rights to protest more than what they are protesting about, then why would I spend time to convince you otherwise? You have told us all who you are and what is important to you.
Again, you have a real aversion to answering direct questions. Jack Easterby, is that you? And I am not angry about them protesting. I am angry about the way they are protesting. And you are correct. The Rockets are important to me. That's why I joined this site. Thanks for caring!
I don't know. In a different year, my feeling on this might be closer to yours. But with all that's going on, the importance I attached to these playoff games was already at an all-time low. I'm fine with them redirecting their energies to other issues that are more relevant and meaningful to them, if that's what they choose to do.
Of course you won’t, cause as much as you’re complaining in the end you’ll watch them. It goes for anyone else trying to play that card. You won’t be missed. Bye
A guide for liberals talking about social justice to conservatives: 1) explain what you think the problem is, specifically. Use facts and statistics. Do not accuse them of having bad faith motives. 2) allow them to make counterpoints. 3) Acknowledge where you agree. 4) where you agree, offer solutions. You’d be surprised how much you both agree when you drop the name calling. By showing you are willing to talk and negotiate, conservatives will be more willing to discuss things you don’t agree on. That is the way of things, whether you like it or not. You can fill yourself will all the righteous indignation you want, and all it will do is escalate the division.
People like This is a perfect example of the slave mentality thinking that has us where we are today as a country. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" Yessir masta
