Man, I'd watch any basketball league right now. Bunch of dads in their 40s in a tournament? I will watch it.
Wait till NFL and SEC players go on strike to see how people react I mean I suppose there's a chance that we could go months without the police violently assaulting some person of color on video...but that's a lot to ask these days of the boys in blue.
I don't mean alienated in that sense, but plenty of fans that are on board with the mission disagree with the methods being used. I guess if alienating is the wrong word there, then please find a word in the thesaurus to correct me.
The left and right have lost the ability to talk...to negotiate. Can’t say who’s fault this is. Probably both. The right have been cowards for a long time. The left have been screaming children for the last decade it seems. I grew up in a conservative family and consider myself an independent. And this is just the cold hard truth that liberals need to face: the message you are sending right now is not being interpreted by conservatives in the way you intend it to. You can protest, express solidarity, all of that...you aren’t reaching them with any of it. You can accelerate and amplify...it will push them farther away. Now your response to this can be “good riddance”, but the reality is you need them. You need them every bit as much as they need you. And that’s where I think we are lost right now. the right knows they need the left, but the left doesn’t think they need the right. As Musk said, the left is losing the middle.
One real problem is oftentimes people don't know what STOP means. In a sexual situation, continuing after being told to stop, can and often does result in a charge of rape. Although there can certainly be rogue cops, being told to STOP by a policeman doesn't mean it's optional based on what you want to do. Stop again means STOP. It's amazing that officer Dort who was guarding his friend's business during the riot (yes riot) and was killed..his life doesn't seem to "matter". The black on black crime in Chicago doesn't seem to "matter"...ditto New York homicides etc.,etc. I don't believe that the value of one life is more valuable than another. And yet, that's not what we see. Sad, very sad.
How many times are people gonna post that they’re done with the NBA? We heard you the first time. Log out and never log back in.
some “fans” if the minute the players do something they don’t like, they immediately turn on them and claim they’re done...those “fans” can gtfo again, they don’t care about u “hating the way they go about it” they posted on Twitter and IG...it gets ignored they kneeled...they’re SOBs and disrespecting the army insignificant stuff like painting BLM on the court and putting slogans on jersey...that is all well and good huh... as long as they don’t do anything to hurt your “escape” and entertain u, then it’s fine please...
HEB could go on strike and it's still going to happen... Doesn't make it right, just saying the methods won't fix the issue.
I have no idea. These players are the best in the world, and their employer is making money off of their skills. That gives the players a lot of power, and they are exercising it in this situation. That you and I may not have that kind of power in our workplace is not relevant to what they should do in their position.
Sure neither did sitting at a lunch counter in Greensboro but you have to start somewhere and even if it fails at least you tried
It get's ignored bc it still happens? 300 million people could go rampaging thru the streets clamoring for the end of police violence. All it takes is one individual being a moron to stop the "change" On another note, and I don't know the exact numbers, but do you think police violence against black americans is on the rise? Is this new? are we trending upward. I may be misinformed but I thought they were actually going down despite popular belief. You just hear about it even more now.
I mean, we can disagree on the tactics of this, and whether it actually makes a difference for their cause. But by "alienate" I assumed you are referring to fans who will decide to no longer watch or support the NBA because of this. That's very different than mere disagreement. That's strong resentment that these players would dare to put attach more importance to a social justice issue than our entertainment.
Since you know me so well, and you know my relationship so so many players, I'll take your advice and "get lost". You know so much about me already. I'll discuss with the former Rockets I'm close to and see if I'm off-base. I'll follow their lead. You are a random keyboard warrior that means little to me in the big picture. The OG guys that I know don't all feel the way you do, but I'll at least listen.
And that, my friend, is a good convo. Cheers to you, brother. As my initial anger subsides, I'll figure out a plan. Right now, I'm pretty hot. Maybe a good night sleep will temper that.
