Let's see. It's a protest. It's peaceful. The court finds this a peaceful act of protest. Appeal denied. Next?
There have been conversations, protests and riots about this for decades. You can look that up too. Heck you can see the trolls doing work in this very thread.
We can’t pretend to know what was going on in his mind. I’d imagine being a black man and having the cops pointing their guns at you would put you into an absolute panic. As long as he didn’t pose an eminent threat to the officers that type of force is inexcusable. As far as his record goes no matter how disgusting and deplorable his prior behavior was, he’s a free man. Being a free man in this country is supposed to mean you’re entitled to rights, one of them being due process. If we let the police get away with executing Americans in the street how they see fit and without just cause we might as well pack it in because we won’t be a free democracy anymore. It’s also not just about blake or Floyd or Brianna, it’s the systemic racism and lack of accountability that has penetrated this country’s core since its inception. This is about much more than any specific incident. This country needs to take a hard look in the mirror and decide if we want to be hypocrites or if we want to truly be about the principles we so proudly boast of.
You sound like a guy ready to throw bricks. I'm just exercising my right to change the channel and divert my business $ elsewhere. You need to get over YOURself.
How short is your memory? There were protests and riots during Obama's second term, most notably in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014. Trump would often talk about the unrest and "American carnage" that would end when he was elected president. From his 2016 covention speech:
season is pretty much over... this won't just be a 1 game thing, players already want to get out of the bubble and go home. At this point I don't think players care about the money until they see how much they will lose next season.
Why on Earth would they blame a party that embraces white nationalism and white supremacy? That’s really your question? Southern strategy
Sorry, I can't exercise free thought? I guess I should continue to pour thousands of dollars into their business because....I'm just supposed to?
I’m very curious what the players decide to do next. Protesting alone may come at a greater cost to them than the results they get. They need to develop of platform of policy changes they want and very importantly from whom?
“The players won’t let me escape and won’t entertain me. Instead, they want to be selfish and try to make a stand.” like I said, good riddance...u and your business can gtfo U don’t give a damn about the players, so why should they give a damn about entertaining u? Cancel your season tickets, give up the team, and get lost.
You're right. I guess if the racism problem is solved. We would also have no cancer, diabetes, aneurysms, depression, anxiety, the Utah Jazz, politicians, Trevor Bauer, rapists, Catholic priests, autoimmune disorders, the New England Patriots, child molesters, and that whole COVID-19 thing. I can't wait to appreciate watching George Hill solve these issues.
I think we will see NBA players use their money and celebrity to be more overtly involved in politics in a long term way. It would not surprise me to see Chris Paul make a run for Senate after he retires from basketball. Today indirectly lays the groundwork for things like that. In the meantime maybe the NBA will try awkward things like organizing Black community-police department charity games. Smarter people than myself can guess. I don't see boycotts as lasting long because they don't target the right people, as you noted. They are happening today somewhat like a very long moment of silence.
