I was at the Venetian about a week ago and they had the Rockets at 16/1. As soon as I get my paycheck I'm going to put some money down on the Rockets if the odds haven't been adjusted yet.
I went to the Venetian sports book today to place my bet on the Rockets and it was packed. The odds were updated three days ago and the Rockets are currently at 14-1. Still a good bet considering most online places like bodog have the Rockets at 10-1.
As a Vegas resident, folks need to keep in mind, that odds do not represent the chances of teams winning the championship, but rather what the casino sets to entice/limit action. For example, tons of people are gonna visit from Cali and bet on the Lakers, therefor the odds may be skewed lower than their actual chances of winning. There are many carryover fans of the Bulls from the MJ era who will throw their money at the Bulls, therefor the odds are set lower than actual expectations. On the otherhand, most Nets fans are gonna go to Atlantic City, rather than Vegas, therefor Nets will have higher odds than realistic - to entice more 'action.' It's kinda like, if you always bet against the hometown team, you're gonna get better odds - cause you're surrounded by people that want to bet on 'their team' - so you can get better odds/better point spread, etc.. Overall, the odds are a decent barometer - but other factors do play into the #s.
When can I place the bet for the Rockets? 17/1 is legit odds, I'd take that bet everyday of the week and twice on Sunday after the Artest trade.
I'm goin to be in Vegas next week as long as Gustav doesn't F up my flight. I'll probably put down some on the Rox
Those odds are old. Currently Bodog is giving 9-1. Before the Artest trade it was 15-1 I believe, and after the trade it changed the next day to 8-1.
just got back from the Rio today after being there for a week for work.. dropped $500 on the Rockets instead of gambling. figured I would have lost it anyways like usual. This way it's like a season long bet... more for my money.
Not too much new info...but here's some odds now that we're getting closer to season tipoff. BTW...the buffet at LV Hilton sucks. And, of course, this is for entertainment purposes only.
