At this point it is almost strategic to sign Amare to improve our pick position. He isnt the first choice but we can do the six year max and increase the value of our picks.

not really....they still need more players and all they did was trade out lee for amare. they still need a 2nd free agent.

yeah but that's too many ifs...

if the suns go back ont he verbal deal with warrick
if amar'e decides he rather come to houston
if the rockets offer what the suns want...

i dont think amar'e ever wanted to come here anyway, he knows it'll hurt his stats...he needs to go where his game game suits the offense...that's with D'antoni..he'll continue to be relevant and make big money.

If it's just Ariza, some convenient chips still remain....

Not necessarily. Amare isn't a guy who leads a team to a 50 win season by himself. He's good, but he needs a running mate.

Adrian Wojo will be on ESPN radio later today, not sure when but I saw it on the Knicks board.

Wojo said the Knicks were unimpressive with their presentations (he said it was unfocused and unorganized) and they are in real danger of striking out.

Amare has made progress in contract negotiations with the Knicks but that won't be enough.

I'm too lazy to read through this entire thread, so I don't know if this has been mentioned:

Offering up Ariza and Scola in sign-and-trades is largely based on one thing: 2011 CAP SPACE.

If the Rockets do nothing this offseason except retain their own players, the largest contracts on the books beyond 2011 will likely be, in the following order:

    (1) Kevin Martin
    (2) Trevor Ariza
    (3) Luis Scola (although you could flip-flop him with Ariza)

If the Rockets were somehow able to pull off a sign-and-trade with Toronto for Bosh that includes both Ariza and Scola, then the Rockets' cap situation next summer, generally, looks like this:

    (1) Chris Bosh (max money)
    (2) Kevin Martin (~$11.5M)
    (3) Aaron Brooks's cap hold (~$6M)
    (4) Kyle Lowry (at his new salary, unless he just takes the qualifying offer)

And not much else of significance as far as taking up cap room is concerned.

Depending on what is done with the new CBA, the Rockets would be in prime position to be a major player in 2011 free agency and/or as a facilitator of deals using its cap space. More importantly, that cap room will make sign-and-trade deals next summer MUCH easier to do than this summer. Houston could trade out only a small (or no) salary in exchange for a signed-and-traded star. Or it doesn't even need to be a free agent. It could be a guy under contract. Heck, it could be one of THESE free agents who doesn't like his situation a year from now!

Salary cap FLEXIBILITY is one of Morey's many overlooked virtues.

Here it is again on display.

So you think that this rumor is true? I cannot believe it, as offering both Scola and Battier is like ripping the Rockets' heart out. Also, why do a big campaign about telling the fans to tell Scola how much we want him back if one is determined to trade him?

I'm not saying that the STORY is true. Just that it would make sense from a salary cap management standpoint.

If Scola and Ariza go in a package, I would like to retain Battier if possible.

But even then, I think the Rockets could get by with enough "heart" from guys like Chuck Hayes, Kyle Lowry and Yao.

This maneuver, if true, strikes me as just stupid.

If the Knicks were even willing to part with a heavily-protected 2014 first rounder (or even one or two future second rounders) in a Stoudemire package, the Suns could have gotten something for Amare, then immediately renounced the trade exception to sign Warrick and Frye.

    Imprudent move by Phoenix.

Wont miss Ariza.....or Battier really if that happened.

But sad to see Luis involved as a piece.

If those picks are low lottery to low first round. They won't be that valuable in trade/s. All the Knicks have to do is achieve mediocrity.

I have been saying all year that 2010 was not the target 2011 was.

Yao's contract and situation makes it so.

    Great breakdown Bima!

I totally believe you nailed it.

Yao is probably the no.2 reason. The no.1 reason is that Les hasn't paid lux tax more than 10 years.

you no why their getting rid of both ariza and battier dont you?because they getting they main man, the king, lebron james. they will trade brooks, hill, scola, picks for lebron. thus this:

    Lowry/llul
    Martin/Taylor
    James/Budinger
    Bosh/patterson/hayes
    Yao/Miller/hayes

Brad miller via mle or veterans minimum. may be a long shot to get the king but more and more people are saying houston would be a great fit. aslo bring in llul from europe or where ever he is.
