    That's tough.

Me personally, I'd probably want to keep Ariza simply because he's younger, but that may also be a reason that Toronto wants him.

I wouldn't mind keeping Battier because I respect the hell out of him and can't imagine seeing him in a different uniform at this point in his career, but Toronto might want him for his contract.

Honestly, I'm fine with keeping either one, but if you put a gun to my head and told me to choose, I'd go with keeping Ariza and trading Battier.

    Barnes better than Ariza? lol.

You need to stop the hate on Ariza, DD.

Ariza played great for us once Martin came onboard and the former was able to return to his natural position.

I dunno, I cant see another deal happening for a SF, no matter how mediocre they look in the FA market. These guys are getting overpaid like crazy this offseason and its absolute madness. I simply cant see Morey falling prey to the insanity of paying unproven, mediocre talents the type of salaries they are demanding right now. Hell, Rudy Gay accepted an offer of over $100 mil if I'm not mistaken.

If both Battier and Ariza leave, I think we'll go into the season with Bud starting and no backup. RA might run a lineup with AB and Landry at gaurd with Bud at the 3, or maybe AB/Landry, Martin, and Taylor? Also, putting two PF's on the floor is not outside the question since Patterson is only 6-9 and has good length.

To mitigate that risk, I could also see Morey keeping his eye on developmental prospects, NBDL-types or undrafted college players who have the potential to be serviceable NBA talents.

Another factor in trading both right now is how much value RA gives to those players. I get the feeling that Shane isnt fit for RA's offense the same way he was for JVG's team and he might feel that Bud is worth starting over Ariza this season, even if no trade occurs. Obviously this is all speculation, but if the report is accurate, I wouldnt be surprised if those things are true.

Let's hope we keep Ariza and trade Battier to Toronto, BUT we give Toronto some cash to help them with the Battier buyout. Then, Battier comes back on the cheap and backs up Ariza.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Budinger
    Ariza/Battier
Bosh/Patterson/Andersen (who we could trade since he's basically an expiring contract)
    Yao/Brad Miller/Hayes

Well I fully believe this is because they believe as I do that Budinger is gonna be a real good starter at SF so they are able to pulll this off actually but lose some defense doing this for sure. Budinger is ready though. He is better than Battier already to me.

I imagine it would be either Ariza or Battier, not both. But offering Scola and one of them for Stoudemire? Hard to imagine they'd do that.

Id do it in a heart beat. Forget sticking with role players just because. You get the star if you can and worry about depth after you get them.

ESPN just reported that Cleveland is after Trevor Ariza. Again. Remember what happened last year when Lebron supposedly told Ariza to sign with Cleveland because he would be resigning with them.

Like there is anything on the Cavs roster worth trading for.

If this rumor is true, and we do have to give up Scola, Ariza, and Battier, we are not totally in trouble. Im not sure if Budinger is quite ready to be our starting SF just yet but J. Jefferies is a very good perimeter defender who also led the league in charges last year too.

He is certainly not good enough to start at the 3 but he is alot better defender than people in Houston know and would pick up alot of the slack that Battier and Ariza would lose off the bench.

Plus Im sure we could arrange Toronto to buy out Battier at some part next year and get him back for peanuts when it matters after December. He is the heart of the team and thats why I question him being involved in a trade like this unless Morey knew he could get bought out and returned to retire a Rocket.

There is nobody on the Cavs I want. Hopefully this is a move to keep Lebron there but give us some other move in return with someone else perhaps?

Amare about to be off the market according to Rotoworld

Amare Stoudemire and the Knicks are close to agreeing on a five-year, max contract.

This comes as no surprise, as we posted similar news late on Thursday night. At this point, it would be shocking if Amare doesn't land in New York, which should help the Knicks land a second big-named free agent. Jul. 2 - 1:35 pm et

On 790, they were just talking about PP playing the 3, in sort of a similar roll to Odom. Not so sure about that, but it got me thinking if there was some sort of reason behind the willingness to give up both our 3s.

Well, what if DM already knows that Yao isn't going to be healthy and return to form? What if DM is thinking next year is likely to be another development year? We still want to grab a big FA because it might not be available next year. But if it's not going to be a win now year, you want to hang on to guys like Brooks and Budinger who'll be as good or better in years to come.

All that said though, doesn't really give with going after Miller unless it's a 2 year vet min type deal.

This is obviously to make room for the GWH, Chase Budinger.

Is there any incentive for Toronto to waive Battier so that we could pick him back up?

I see this happen from time to time and wonder why a team would waive a player.

I would do a sign and trade for Bosh but I wouldn't do it for Amare. Amare is a good PF but he isn't worth giving up our SF and Scola plus a MAX contract. Remember, Amare is successful because his points are mainly from the assist of Nash.

So without Nash, his scoring should dip. He wouldn't be as good without Nash. Brooks is a good PG but he is not going to impact Amare as much as Nash did. So I rather keep Scola and our guys instead of having Amare.

So Yes to Bosh because he is a better player and No to Amare.
