...but they want to resign Kurt Thomas more than they would like to resign Barry. Wouldn't they need that money from the MLE to do so? Also, why would Barry opt out of a deal with the Spurs, than sign one for about the same amount?

Spurs hold KT's bird rights. The don't need to use the MLE to re-sign him. Barry opted out of a vet's min deal which is around 700K less than the LLE or the remainder of the Spur's MLE.

Most accurate post. Minor clarification, if the Rockets broke into the MLE (say 2.0 mil to Barry or Evans, the LLE is only up to 1.9mil), another team only has to offer Landry $1 more the 1st year than we have left and we can't match. We don't want to empower such a scenario.

So Barry for the LLE is the only realistic thing we can offer (2 years 3.9) right now. It may be he has tentatively accepted, but if there is more possible from the MLE after the Landry situation is settled down the line it is perfectly reasonable for Barry to get more than the LLE.

I would prefer Mo Evans over Barry (or Mason), but it isn't a realistic play until the Landry thing is settled. Unlike Barry he is in no position to accepted a much lower than market value contract to go to his ideal team (and Evans should easily be in Mason market range, probably a tad higher).

So patience is the way to. If Barry takes the LLE, great. If not we have to wait out the Landry thing. Still might get good value and bench help from Evans, Barry, Barnes, Jarvis Hayes, Abuzike, etc. Some times later in FA are the best bargains.

Morey is playing it right, right now, IMO.

Barry out of picture, Suns still seek wing player
    Jerry Brown, Tribune

Brent Barry is off the Phoenix Suns radar. Darius Miles and Devin Brown are on the periphery. And Tyronn Lue remains the favorite to be Steve Nash’s backup at point guard.

As he was last March, the 36-year-old Barry showed interest in signing with the Suns — even though they could only offer him the $1.262 veteran minimum salary. But all indications now are that Barry will wind up in Houston, where the Rockets can offer him their bi-annual exception of $1.9 million.

The Suns weren’t in a position to match or beat the offer. If they fill their remaining roster spots with rookie Robin Lopez and nothing other than veteran minimum contracts, their payroll will be $76.1 million for the 2008-09 season. That’s a shade under $5 million over the luxury tax, leaving the Suns with a payroll and tax bill over $80 million ($81.1 million) — the highest in franchise history.

Not sure it is awesome but it does make the team incrementally better...and sometimes that is all you need.

    Mario Elie...cough cough.

I actually see Evans as a Elie type. He's stout and strong like Elie and he gets to the rack and finishes. He's actually turned out to be a decent player. Barry is decent also, but he's old ,slow, and unatheletic.

I want to know if people are prepared to see Landry treat the rox like varejo did cleveland?

Barry's a better fit because of his 3pt shooting. The Rockets were one of the worst teams at 3pt shooting in the league this past season.

    COOL!

Hopefully, that becomes final news. He should be a definite asset.

I wish we could have obtained Barry a few years ago. He might have solved some of our PG woes. But, I'm sure he feels he made the right decision, when he got his ring, although he could have been our starter here, instead of a backup in SA.

This thread needs to die already.

Seal the deal already, Im tired of seeing this half this thread title and thinking that we are offering a deal to someone else.

He is a better shooter and has playoff experience but Mo Evans is more reliable because of his fitness and defense.
