Jump Shooter- How many slow, non atheletic guys Detroit have on their roster? Their worse athelete is probably Hayes, and he's above avg and is a big sg.

Once again I state the obvious, what's wrong with R. Davis as shane and tracy's backup?

Nah, don't read too much into that. He could have agreed in principle but has to iron out the details.

Morey and the Rockets are generally pretty tight lipped with these things, so an agreement with Morey doesn't mean it's in the public.

Local news here (which is pro Spurs) have the Spurs now scrambling to keep Kurt Thomas since the Lakers and Heat are to be after him. This may be good news in having Brent Barry come to H-Town.

McGrady and Battier are 36-mpg players. I don't want to see them play any more than that in the regular season, especially McGrady. That means we need 24 mpg at the backup wing position. Assuming Head is gone, if Barry plays about 18 mpg, we can have some other guys play spot minutes. (e.g. small ball with two PGs on the floor, big ball with Landry or Novak playing SF)

I think Barry may be a 20+ MPG player on the Rockets backing up SG, SF and possibly some PG.....

Suns and Lakers are reportedly after him as well. Who knows if they're throwing part of their MLE at him?

Remember. Luxury Tax. Whatever they offer Barry they pay double.

They can beat Rockets offer by offering $3 million, for example... but then they pay $6 million for Barry.

He's a shooting guard, but I think he can play some point as well.

    No they don't!

Rule 1. Luxury Tax and Salary Cap is different... (Weird I know)

Luxury Tax for the 2008 season is $71.15 Million (Last year was $67.xx Mil)
Salary Cap for the 2008 season is $58.68 Million (Last year was $55.63 Mil)

That means you can over spend (sorta) above the salary cap $12.46 Mil and not be hit with the luxury tax.

Also remember that the Rockets salary is about $8-10 Million more than the San Antonio spurs.. YES you read that right the Spurs mgmt team is probably one of the best in the NBA not to mention the fact that they locked up there big 3 (Duncan,Manu,Parker) for the long term.

So Dakota, what are you suggesting, Mason as Rafer's replacement? I think Brooks will improve immensely this season so I think we have a solid backup. Just curious.

My bad Carl I got this message board mixed up with another I was in lol (I got owned by me) Haven't seen the Suns or Lakers payroll but I think they are above ours so they might be in lux tax territory or near it.

No, I was clarifying the PG/SG discussion........

I too think Brooks will improve and you know what that may be good enough.

If we can get to a situation where if Rafer is hitting he plays, or if not, Brooks is hitting and playing....than that may be enough.

I mean I guess its just me and a few other disgruntled souls, but the spurs just signed Mason Jr as Barry's replacement, but we want Barry? So a old slow experienced former world champ decided to sign a 28 yr old that shot 44%fg, 40% 3pt, 85% ft and can play both guard spots at 6'5? I guess we see why they're always a step in front of us recently.

    Bring it on!
