The way the Rockets do spacing, three point perimiter shooters are a premeium. Because they continuously get wide open looks in the Rockets system. Battier, Luther, and Novak are outstanding three point shooters. But Battier is a hesitant shooter. Novak has not caught up to the speed of the game to warrant being playing. And Luther is a 6'3" shooting guard. All three are options, but Barry would just add to the 3 point barrage.
We need a backup swingman. And he is the best out there available. Luther Head's size and how easily he gets rattled is a concern.
How about 15-20 minutes? I always hated when he came in for San Antonio. That's the telling sign for me. I hope we get him just so they get a taste of their own medicine.
Barry would be a good pick up, and conversely would not add to a Western competitor. The only question I would have if BB were to Rock would be the health of his leg, and whether it wuld ever be 'right' this season. As for Bobby Jones, I know nada about him. He's a big guard, D oriented (with some supposed O), and a 10-day contract waiting to happen from any of several teams, as I understand it. Flip < Dixon. 'nuff said, I should think. If the Rox wanted two additions, BB + Jones or a big (Magliore?) who would be cut, Stevie (bought out/re-signed for vet minimum in the summer?)?
After speaking with some Spers fans, I'd rather have Bobby Jones than Brent Barry. BB apparently plays no defense these days and that's the main reason he hasn't been getting much PT this season. Not that he played much D earlier in his career either, but now his lateral quickness has really deteriorated. If we need more shooting out on the floor in certain situations we can just plug in Luther Head for more minutes. Bobby Jackson can play the 2 as well. And against certain matchups (such as Bonzi for instance) Bobby Jones could prove valuable.
Morey did great job since he was on board. I think he fighting like a worrier. He offered a perfect team to Rick. Whether he can get Barry or not. It is time for all the rockets players to fight for the title. They are lucky to have Morey's support.
Brent Barry is a playoff tested veteran. Bobby Jones is young. As for dealing with tough matchups, if Battier is really the glue guy, he needs prove his worth matching up against Bonzi etc...
Battier will always guard Peja when we play the Hornets. He'll also stick to Josh Howard when we play the Mavs, meaning someone will have to guard Stackhouse. Carmelo for the Thuggets, leaving JR Smith to be guarded. Etc, etc. I'm just saying when Tmac is on the bench or injured it would be nice to have a big guard on the roster. I'm not worried about Jones' age or playoff experience. I see him in the mold of Chucky Brown for us.
would love to get barry, but i think he goes to suns or spurs.....but I don't think is the difference between advancing deep in playoffs or not...
Jon wasn't the best defensive player for the 60 games he played for us but we accept that and he found a way to contribute. The price alone might too good to pass up. There is a reason why all 3 dominant texas teams want him.
Bobby Jones is a career 28.9% 3pt shooter and he's having an off year. That makes no sense to try to pick him up.
Jon Barry was a feisty defender his entire career though, and did play decent enough defense in his stint with us. But Brent has always been a disinterested defender for the most part. Even before joining the Spers he was known as a defensive liability who used to just gamble and play the passing lanes instead of staying in front of his man. And now apparently, he's even worse than before.
