Ah well...crap! Is it a bad time to bring up ball handling, passing, and defense as criteria to be used to level the playing field between the two?
Morey mentioned "in the playoffs shooting becomes a premium" and "coach wants to play with shooters on the floor". I get the feeling Adelman is the one who wants him for the team. If the Rockets get him I wouldn't be surprised if he took Luther's minutes. If the Rockets face Utah again... Head didn't have a good outing against the Jazz in the playoffs or this season so far.
Luther's had 3 seasons, Barry 13. Barry's averages in the last 3 seasons are FG% (.469) 3P% (0.424) In the last two season he's gone on hot streaks and flirted with a 50% FG% season average.
I couldn't agree more with you. They need to impose a rule that doesn't allow a player to be waived to a 30-day vacation and then resign with the same team. The player would need to wait until next season to sign with the same team, it would prevent under-the-table deals.
All players want playing time and that is our only edge with him over the Spurs. Ohterwise, he can stay in San Antonio, heal up for a month and get bit pieces in the playoffs while signing for part of their MLE.
Nah, I think it has more do with age and cumulative wear and tear on his body. Plus add in a 5 inch verticle and no lateral mobility. Barry really can't guard PGs or SGs with any offensive skills at this point. Barry is pretty much just a spot up 3 shooter (which he is great at if he had some space) with a good BB IQ at this point. But athletically, he is to Head as Head is to Lebron. Again, I am fine to add him--heck for a 2 year min why not. But if I were him I'd go to Phx or Boston (or back to SA)--a team with more playing time and who can more afford to have a no-defense playing 1 trick pony simply to help spread the floor.
Why are some people actually trying to compare Heads shooting of 36.8% from 3p to Barry's 43% from 3p. It matters what they are doing this season and thats it . Head sux period
I hope he signs with us, but honestly....looking at the Spurs roster versus ours...they need him worse. DD
As as spot up shooter with space, yes Barry is better (though Head is good). But there are few other areas of his game where the 36 year old Barry is still better than Head and lots of other major weaknesses of Barry (like guarding anybody).
36.8% is not good at all. Head has been getting nothing but wide open looks from Tmac and so does everybody else. Its Head's own fault for jacking stupid shots. The only thing Head does alright is cut to the basket, but manages to miss some very easy layups.
Barry would be an upgrade over Head this season for these reasons: -Smarter basketball IQ (Luther makes boneheaded plays maybe twice a game) -Intangibles (playoff proven; won championships; size) -Ball handling skills -Passing ability -Low Post Entry Passing I think Barry's advantages outweigh Luther's. Luther MAY be a better defender...but not by a great margin. Barry's entry pass skills and passing overall are GREATLY better than Head's. Adding Brent Barry would add depth and stability to the 1/2/3 spot. Head can come off the bench when shooting is bad and provide yet another energy substitute for the Rockets.
Rox were knocked out of the playoffs cus nobody made a wide open shot, if we can pick up a vet and a great shooter like him , we can win those game 7's. If Head, Alston, BJ struggle from 3p we wont get passed the 1st Rd. We need his shot bad
That's why I'm not too keen on adding him. We need a player with the ability to guard SF/SG along with an outside shot. That would benefit Battier and T-Mac a lot. Unfortunately there isn't anyone available,Green isn't that guy. I hope Bobby Jones might be able to help out a little if he is signed. I'm not implying that Jones is a better player than Barry but defense will remain a problem if he chooses us over SA or another team.
If we get Barry, our 8 man rotation would be Alston McGrady Battier Scola Yao Jackson Barry Landry Now that is a pretty salty team. You would also have luther and chuck playing spot minutes when needed and they are veteran guys that have played in the playoffs before.
that's a nice team, but I still feel like Alston is the weak link despite how well he has played lately. His still needs to improve his shot selection.
the way those guys are playing this year..that is one solid rotation...we shall hear somethin tonight or at least by tomorrow morning
Barry nearly exclusively shoots layups and 3P shots. Around 60% of his shots made are layups and 40% 3P shots. He still has the ability to get to the basket.
