Maybe the mediocre-like way that Barry has played recently may be due to the Spurs system. I've always thought that Brent was a fast-break kind of player. He was pretty much designated as a spot-up shooter and nothing else, due to the fact that San Antonio is primarily a half-court team, and as a result hasn't been able show his diversity of skills. Similarly, Bobby Jackson was placed in a spot-up shooter role with the Hornets. And now, if tonight's game was any indication of what he can do, BJax is going to be a consistent offensive threat for us. A lot of times how good a player is depends on the system. IMO, seeing Brent Barry's style of play in the past (fast-breaking, thread-the-needle passes, movement), he would fit right in with Adelman's system.
I would be confused if Barry picked the Mavs to sign with. The Mavs have a glut of 2s and 3s on their roster: Eddie Jones, Devean George, Antoine Wright, Jerry Stackhouse. PT would be limited and very easy to lose. Also, I don't think the Mavs can get away with the glaring need for a backup center. I see them signing Magloire.
Great!HOUSTON IS LOOKING FOR TEACHERS FOR THE YOUNG PLAYERS!! Tmac is the teacher for Green and head Mutombo is the teacher of Landry,Hayes BJ and Alston are the teachers for Brooks and head Brent barry is the teacher for steve novak Yao and scola are helping each other! what a great team!
and Steve Francis is there to teach those who couldn't make the active roster that it's ok to be on the inactive list...despite your star status. just kidding...come back strong next year, Stevie
It's hard to believe that he wouldn't return to the SPURS and be with his teammates and all - afterall they are his friends by now. So I'd expect him to return to the spurs - they may promise him more playing time. The Spurs don't want him to go to the Rockets for sure. I really think the rules should be changed that if you are traded away you can't rejoin your original team that season. That would eliminate this kinda of gaming the system.
So after Monday when Barry (most likely) chooses another team, do we sign Bobby Jones to that 10-day contract?
gosh, i dont feel right about getting this guy. something in the air just seems like....no. he's old, and has some kind of injury right now. can he still move and how healthy is he really?
It'd be fantastic if they could sign Newley but Jones is looking like he'll be it. http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2008/02/the_rockets_roll_on_with_a_sta.html
Let's not kid ourselves, Houston hasn't exactly been the most attractive destination for free agents lately. I'm not trying to be negative just saying in recent history with many more busts (Stro, Derek Anderson, Francis, Bonzi to some degree) than moves that panned out, people start to notice these things.
I agree. Just saying that with these coveted bargain bin FA's that we've experimented with in the past not many of them have worked out. Barry is going to want minutes wherever he goes. Can we guarantee that? Granted, I guess you could say the same about him resigning in SA or giving Phoenix, Dallas or whoever a try. All i'm saying is I hope our recent history with FA's doesn't influence his decision.
Brent will totally start contributing with our offense and system, since we do rely so much on downtown shooting . . If we pick up Brent somehow, he'll def be a great addition, and a great mentor to Novak! oh . . forgot to mention, keep on rollin' ROCKETS! . . let's make it 13 now!
