that's an entirely different point from the one i was making. i was not contesting a point you made...you were contesting a point that i made. i posted...you responded. my point is the point in question.
ummm...he made a trade for arguably the best scorer in the game and signed him to a long-term max deal.
That's trade. We trade talent for talent. Again, you maybe missing my point here. I'm talking about signing free agents, like Suns did, adding talents, not trading talents.
i agree but i think we also have to agree that yao's case is extremely out of the ordinary. plus the jerseys that sell in china are pooled aren't they? i didn't think each yao jersey netted rockets an extra dollar. they are collectively distributed to the entire league if im not mistaken.
Maybe just a little bit over salary cap? get a quality role player for something like 7 mil instead of 5 mil on Lue and Ward etc. With that kind of revenue, does it sound possible?
Not really, because after the 2005/2006 season we will have two max players (assuming we resign Yao to the max). You cant spend money on any more than role players if you have 2 max contract players.
That is still on the assumption of not going over cap limit. If Les isn't making a lot money like this, I can understand it. Since Rockets is 3rd in revenue, does it really hurt Lex that much if Rockets is several millions over the cap? I know nothing guarantees Championship, but it does give Rockets a better chance.
Nah, it's 'cause Yao sells all over the world. And TMac jerseys are always in high demand. Ticket sales are a drop in the bucket compared to merchandising, etc.
Because we are over the cap, we are restricted to signing FAs with the MLE, which we have used, in full, the past two summers. The Suns were under the cap, therefore, they could spend more. It has nothing to do with Les being a tight wad and Calangelo being a free speender.
From what I understand, it was used in the TE trade, and we received a new TE in exchange. That TE is good till later this season IIRC.
