Luther Head's a tradeable piece. Maybe not by himself would be bring in a decent big man or point guard, but packaged with someone else maybe. Like Battier + Head, or I wish Juwan Howard + Head, pick + Head... ...Dinner date + some Head....
I respect your opinion and I'm not gonna read every post in this thread. Give me a few ideas on how we might get better by trading Shane. Two players I'll name are Lamar Odom and Corey Maggette, so you can't use them. What should our priorities be? With Shane on the roster I say #1 is PG (I've said that 3 years straight) and #2 is PF.
I'd do this trade. Odom is a great piece. He would be an upgrade at a needed position. The only way it works, though is if the Lakers take Juwan, too.
So you'd settle for Rudy Gay becoming the next Josh Howard? It's amazing that he fell to #8 in such a weak draft...
I dont think Battier will get traded. He is the player that every team wants. other than that, everybody could go, including YAO and TMAC..
Josh Howard was an all star this year and better than Dirk in the playoffs. Certainly if Rudy Gay became a Josh Howard he would be a huge success. Only time will tell who got the better end of the deal there. Battier is a win now player, but he still has 3-4 years of playing at his current level at least. What we need is some good drafts and some better free agent signings. Ideally we some how find a way to draft a PG like Acie Law or perhaps more realistically the 6'5 Javaris Crittenton from Georgia Tech. Then find an atheletic power forward and we are in business. Of course easier said than done.
I think he would be an ideal fit on a younger team that lacks dicipline and plays poor defense. Portland would be a possible trading partner. Perhaps for Jarrett Jack and either Travis Outlaw or Ime Udoka, whose game is very similar to Battier. Atlanta is another team that could use Battier. They are very young and had the leagues worst defense. Josh Childress is a player that I’ve been really interested in. I’d trade Battier for Childress and maybe Claxton or Salim Stoudamire. To Toronto for Jose Calderon and Morris Peterson To Boston for Rajon Rondo and Delonte West To Golden State for Monta Ellis. Basically, any move that would help get us younger and more athletic in the backcourt, and have us acquiring another playmaker.
The only one of those deals I like are for Calderon and MoPete and the Raptors would be crazy for trading Calderon. Monta Ellis is a thought but he's an untouchable on the Warriors; it's JRich they supposedly will be looking to move.
Josh Howard is a borderline All-Star player. Amare Stoudemire fell to 9th in a very weak draft. What's your point?
there's no use in aguing with Weslinger in regards to Battier. According to Weslinder Battiers ability to draw charges is a valuable skill that can not be replaced ro taught. I think Battier is valuable but he is definitely a player the rockets can afford to move to address bigger holes.
The sad thing is we could have drafted EVERY player you listed. 2000 draft: Jason Collins was taken over Morris Peterson Jose Calderon was undrafted 2006 draft: Rajon Rondo (rockets picked Rudy Gay and traded him for Battier instead) 2004 draft: Delonte West was the 24th pick (we traded the 21st pick to Utah) Luther Head was picked over Monta Ellis in the 2005 draft.
I like Jarrett Jack a little more than Calderon, because I think he's capable of being a much better defensive guard. Plus, he has a great mid-range game, which this team really lacks. But I think all those guards would be great additions to this team and the playmaking they would provide would outweigh the defense lost by Battier.
You pretty much used the argument that Gay is more valuable than Battier, even if he only ever manages to be as good as Josh Howard, as if that was somehow on the lower side of Gay's potential. My point is that it's extremely unreasonable to just assume that Rudy Gay will ever be that good.
Agreed Shane is a good role player, if we had a third scorer. The ideal third scorer would be a pf or pg. I think pg would be best, but a good scoring rebounding, all around pf would probably be sufficient also. However, Shane plus the number one is about all we have to offer for such a player. Maybe Howard's contract is expiring soon enough to be valuable. I hope we don't have to wait till expiration year to get the third star. Noramlly we could go with a head case or someone down on their luck or spiriits, but JVG cannot deal with these types. I don't care to specualte into trades involving T Mac or Yao. After all I am a Rockets' fan and it is too hard to change core every couple of years. Bring back Stevie for the number one, anyone exscept the starters, (Rafer, too, Someone has to back up Steve.)
I disagree. Battier is a glue to the team. He's like Bruce Bowen is for the Spurs. The difference is Bowen is NOT the 3rd best player on the Spurs. Duncan, Parker, Ginobili... The Rockets NEED Battier for his defense, his hustle, and the intangibles that he brings. So instead of looking to move him, we need to look to improve around him Yao, and Tmac. We desperately need a 3rd LEGIT scoring option and and obviously and better PG. I still say get Rashard Lewis if we can. He might come here for a hometown discount too!
